Job Summary

The Transportation Group of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Control Room Operator for immediate employment in downtown Milwaukee. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in operations and customer service, specific to a fast paced, technology driven work environment. Operators are responsible for assessing all incoming traffic data and determining, in real-time, the content and priority of traffic reporting. They are the primary point of contact for incident management coordination. Operators provide information to the traveling public related to current travel conditions, maintain traffic interruption reports and manage incidents on the metropolitan roadways from the Wisconsin Traffic Management Control Room.

Operators assess large volumes of data (both static and real-time) from a wide variety of sources to detect possible roadway incidents. They utilize various Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices to assist in the detection, assessment, and confirmation of roadway incidents. Incidents are then communicated to the appropriate personnel and/or traveling motorists.

In addition, Operators are responsible for the maintenance, quality, accuracy and timeliness of all information disseminated. Operators maintain contact with personnel to provide up-to-date information regarding ongoing incidents, associated backups/traffic delays and estimated clearance time.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Multi-agency communications via e-mail, fax, telephone, and instant messaging

  • Document all daily activities regarding communications, roadway incidents, equipment status, and other control room tasks

  • Coordinate and confirm planned and unplanned roadway closure requests

  • Maintain current work orders with applicable status for ITS equipment

  • Monitor a variety of field equipment for detection, assessment, and verification of roadway incidents

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and practical experience

  • Efficient and effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple, diverse and simultaneous inputs, including 2-way radios, CCTV cameras, and computer databases

  • Knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer

  • Ability to work calmly and accurately under intense pressure

  • Driver's license in good standing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of metropolitan roadways including their alternate names, the jurisdiction they are located, where the jurisdiction changes, and alternate routes that are available

  • Previous customer service experience

  • Previous dispatch experience

  • Keen organizational skills

  • Experience working as part of a team

  • Previous military experience

  • Map reading skills

  • Flexible schedule to support second or third shift assignment
