Job Description
AECOM is growing their dynamic Water Infrastructure team in Melbourne and are seeking an influential, collaborative and vibrant Technical Director to join us.
The Water Infrastructure group provides services to a range of internal and external clients on projects covering water and wastewater treatment, dams, asset management, major conveyance, industrial, civil infrastructure (including support of major projects such as the Metro Tunnel and LXRP), mining, and defence sectors.
The successful candidate will join our Water Group leadership team and will help drive the implementation of AECOM’s Australia/New Zealand (ANZ) Water Strategy. You will utilise your strong client-focus and developed networks to seek out new opportunities and nurture positive client relationships.
This is a career-defining opportunity for a driven professional to play an instrumental role in driving the continued growth of our water-related service offering across the Victoria/South Australia/Tasmania (VSAT) water market sector, and the wider ANZ region.
Why AECOM?
With AECOM, you’re joining a Fortune 500 company and global leader in the delivery of water services, with over 50,000 staff and nearly 5,000 dedicated water specialists. Whether it is through our water academy, our technical practice groups, or mobilising our global leads in the delivery of our projects – AECOM can truly bring global expertise to local delivery. This in turn allows our team to work on flagship national water projects.
Our local water and asset management team pride themselves on an inclusive, equitable culture that promotes participation and diversity of thought - the best people, supporting our clients and communities through innovative, integrated water solutions. We are committed to environmental, social and governance outcomes on our projects, and actively contribute to thought leadership within the water industry, including contribution to industry events such as OzWater, and engagement of leading industry bodies such as Engineers Australia, WSAA and VicWater.
This role is a great opportunity to make your mark as part of a team with a strong growth trajectory, and a healthy pipeline of major projects, underpinned by a robust approach to partnerships with complimentary consultants and contractors in the industry.
Qualifications
We are looking for a motivated and influential leader who enjoys developing and nurturing relationships with our clients and within AECOM, whether through project work, business development initiatives or industry associations. You are positive, looking at challenges as opportunities to innovate, collaborate and grow. You are an active team member and are eager to take on new and different.
Ideally, you will have:
Demonstrated experience in a consultancy setting and within Water Infrastructure

A strong local and regional market presence, with key relationships in the Water Infrastructure sector
Demonstrated experience in identifying new innovative business development opportunities and turning these into wins
Commercial acumen, strong business analysis skills and the ability to interpret and understand complex financial systems and reports

Demonstrated experience in guiding and mentoring junior engineers
20 years of relevant professional experience.
