This permanent role will give you the opportunity to lead strong and collaborative geotechnical teams on exciting and complex projects. You will collaborate with AECOM local, interstate and international offices within Alliance and Design & Construct environments. You will join industry leaders in the fields of geotechnical engineering, geology, hydrogeology, structural engineering and project delivery.
Job Description
Your demonstrated experience in a design consultancy and in a variety of project delivery models, together with strong technical capability will enable you to lead delivery of geotechnical designs from options-analysis through to detailed design while mentoring more junior engineers.
To be successful, you will have a proven track record delivering technically complex geotechnical projects. We are looking for a senior team player who is an excellent communicator with extensive technical knowledge, and experience in geotechnical engineering / engineering geology. Your key duties and responsibilities will be, but not limited to:
Supporting the growth of the business and team by active involvement in a wide variety of projects and pursuits
Overseeing, preparation of and reviewing engineering reports and documentation
Leading the geotechnical delivery on multi-disciplinary projects for an array of local, national, and international clients
Being active in professional technical bodies such as Engineers Australia and Australian Geomechanics Society, Australian Tunnelling Society or similar
Managing and training our junior team members through a combination of “on the job” training and technical presentations
Providing input, peer review and verification of geotechnical data and analyses as well as design calculations based on sound technical understanding and experience
Providing advice to our contractor partners during all stages of the project life cycle including site-selection and optioneering, design and construction
Effectively managing geotechnical projects including planning and developing schedules, co-ordination and to meet objectives, programme and budget
Working collaboratively with other members of the Ground Engineering and Tunnelling team as well as members of Transport, Water, Power and Buildings and Places teams providing inputs to project works and tenders
Minimum Requirements
Strong knowledge of soil and rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering including, but not limited to design of shallow and deep foundations, earthworks, ground improvement, slope stabilisation and ground retention
Extensive knowledge of ground characterisation and various geotechnical aspects in a variety of ground conditions
Strong sense of engineering risk and ability to communicate those and ability to identify practicable industry accepted solutions
Extensive knowledge of specialist geotechnical software such PLAXIS, WALLAP, GeoStudio, Rocscience and Ensoft suites, and experience at applying and analysing the outputs from other commercial geotechnical software platforms
In depth knowledge of relevant Australian and international standards as well as local road and rail authority standards and specifications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to lead teams
Extensive experience in Alliance or Design & Construct projects within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment and preferably in the Australian market
Strong experience in construction activities and providing specialist geotechnical advice to principal contractors on site for a wide variety of projects
Valid Australian driving licence
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or an equivalent)
Membership of Engineers Australia, National Engineering Register, Chartered Professional Engineer and Registered Professional Engineer Victoria
