Job Description

Are you a passionate and experienced Geologist who wants to contribute to challenging and interesting projects that provide direct value to our communities? Do you have experience in the dam space and are looking to join a high performing team? With recurrent project wins and a strong pipeline of work, we are seeking a motivated Senior Geologist to join our Australia AECOM Dams Team (offices in Melbourne, Newcastle and Brisbane).

The AECOM Dams Group is one of the foremost dams consultancy businesses in Australia and often wins work purely on the strength of its people and its great reputation. By joining our team, you will get mentoring and guidance from our industry leading experts in the fields of geology, geotechnical, structural and dam design. You will also get the opportunity to work and collaborate with interstate (Brisbane, Melbourne and Newcastle) and international offices (USA, New Zealand).

Your role will involve:

  • Undertaking geotechnical investigations including:

  • Logging and characterising the engineering properties of foundation and embankment materials.

  • Geological mapping

  • Overseeing laboratory testing programs

  • Data collation, geological characterisation, analysis and reporting

  • Assisting in the preparation of project documentation including reports, project communications, and design drawings and report figures that are of a high professional standard

  • Generally supporting project teams in achieving stated goals within the Dams team but also to the various business lines within the Melbourne office and the Asia-Pacific region

  • Assisting with the water engineering sector proposals and tenders.

Qualifications

You enjoy working in teams, and aspire to progress into advanced technical roles based on your specialist knowledge. You enjoy being accountable for your work and influential in the project’s performance. You enjoy developing and nurturing relationships within AECOM and the local industry, whether through project work, client initiatives or industry associations. You are positive, and see challenges as opportunities to innovate, collaborate and grow. You are an active team member and are eager to take on new and different.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Good planning and organisational skills

  • Ability to conduct field work in a productive and safe manner

  • Knowledge of standard engineering practices, techniques and procedures

  • General design skills including construction materials selection and specification, slope stabilisation works, foundation design for small structures

  • Good report writing skills including Design Memos for specific task outcomes, factual investigation reports, geotechnical interpretive reports, design reports

  • Analytical skills and knowledge of geological and geotechnical software (i.e., RocScience, Geo-Slope, gINT, etc.)

  • Ideally, 7 - 12 years’ experience as a Geologist/Engineering Geologist including investigations.
