AECOM Principal Rail Engineer in Melbourne, Australia

Job Summary

The infrastructure pipeline in south eastern Australia continues to grow, and AECOM is playing an influential role in the development and delivery of many of the key infrastructure programs and projects.

As a result, AECOM is seeking applications from experienced Track and Civil Design engineers to join our growing Rail team in Melbourne and support existing projects and pursue the exciting opportunities ahead.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a dynamic, consulting environment on some of the region’s largest projects, whilst expanding and developing your career within the Rail Infrastructure space. You will have access to projects involving feasibility studies, tender designs, detailed design and construction support on complex, multidisciplinary projects that deliver high standard outcomes for AECOM and its clients. As part of a multi-disciplinary organisation, this role will see you collaborating with other disciplines associated with delivery of railway projects, giving you wider exposure and understanding.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Principal Rail Engineer to join the Melbourne Rail Team. In this role, you will manage projects from start-to-finish, providing high quality technical solutions for our clients whilst nurturing and maintaining positive client relationships. You will be expected to support the Track and Civil team lead in providing technical knowledge and support to your peers. You will be expected to lead and supervise teams to ensure that projects are completed on time and within the allocated budget. Having design management experience is a must, whilst also having project management experience will be looked upon favourably. In-house project management training can be provided.

Responsibilities and Duties

Some of your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Leadership

o Support the Leadership, mentoring and growth of the Melbourne Track and Civil Team;

o Set and clearly communicate goals and targets for yourself, team and stakeholders;

o Be pro-active in managing priorities for clients and internal stakeholders; and

o Manage risk and opportunities on all assigned projects.

  • Technical

o Produce high quality design work;

o Self-check your own work as well the teams work and verify it before issuing to the client;

o Project and design management excellence.

  • Clients

o Demonstrate strong client management skills;

o Deliver to clients and AECOMs expectations of quality, time and cost;

o Develop an understanding of the client’s business and make the connection to AECOM service offerings; and

o Gather first-hand client information and use it for improvements in services.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ideally, 10+ years of experience;

  • Significant experience in delivering rail design in multi-disciplinary environments;

  • Ability to build, maintain and manage strong client relationships and have worked closely with engineer / construction managers;

  • Develop and retain a high level of technical skill;

  • Provide high quality technical advice to clients and ensures that the needs of clients are understood and met;

  • Create high performing, motivated and engaged teams via Performance Planning, Performance Management, appropriate Reward and Recognition, learning and development opportunities where required

  • Strong leadership experience with excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to build relationships and communicate with all levels of the business

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineering degree and qualifications in one of the railway engineering disciplines (Civil)
