Job Summary

The Building and Places Division of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Telecommunication Specialist for immediate employment in the Markham, Ontario office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in telecommunication, security, CCTV, PA and intercom systems design and construction administration specific to transit, commercial, healthcare and institutional facilities.This is a part-time variable position, meaning work days and times will be determined on an as-needed basis.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Telecommunication and security systems design

  • Building condition audits and reports

  • Prepare detailed design for telecommunication, security, CCTV, PA, intercom and distributed antenna systems to accurately incorporate project guidelines

  • Provide space planning, pathway and cabling design for voice, data, security, wireless, etc.

  • Prepare specifications, contract documents, and prepare engineering progress reports

  • Ensuring design conforms with all applicable codes and client standards

  • Demonstrated understanding of quality standards relative to telecommunication and security system specification design and calculation software

  • Travel to the construction sites to conduct installation reviews and prepare reports

  • Technical supervision of less experienced engineers and technologists incl. mark-ups and review of design and drafting

  • Telecommunication system commissioning

Minimum Requirements

  • Electronics and Communications Technology diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution

  • 9+ years of experience in the engineering consulting industry, preferably in a building engineering group

  • Able to work to tight schedules, control project budgets and motivate staff to do the same

  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm in design of telecommunication and security systems

  • Analytical, resourceful and detailed oriented, technical and problem-solving skills and abilities

  • Ability to communicate, coordinate, and work well with others both internally and externally

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and commitment to technical excellence and quality

  • Self-motivated and proactive

  • Must be a good team player and decision maker

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD) with BICSI

  • Electrical Engineering degree from a recognized university

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario

  • Provide valuable technical leadership to less experienced employees; assisting them in developing their skills

  • Ideal candidate would have significant local experience in the above mentioned markets with strong ties and background in the local market and consulting community

  • P3 experience will be given preference

  • Some Project Management experience and training desired
