Job Description

The Structural Engineer will have the following job responsibilities:

  • Perform structural design computations for bridges.

  • Review structural design computations performed by other engineers.

  • Develop structural details for bridge components.

  • Develop construction contract drawing packages.

  • Perform interdisciplinary coordination reviews, ensuring that structural plans are coordinated with roadway, traffic, electrical plans, etc.

  • Prepare specifications detailing the work, submissions, materials and method of measurement of construction contract work.

  • Perform quantity takeoffs and develop construction cost estimates.

  • Prepare bridge load rating computations and report packages per AASHTO and State DOT requirements using AASHTOWare BrR and other load rating software.

  • Review bridge load rating computations and report packages prepared by other engineers.

  • Review shop drawings.

  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.

  • Provide guidance to entry level engineers.

  • Build bridge design and load rating experience demonstrating progressive job responsibilities.

  • Design construction access solutions. Apply working knowledge of roadway and traffic design.

  • Manage construction cost estimates and specifications.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or foreign equivalent degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in bridge design and load rating experience.

  • EIT

  • Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four + years of experience in bridge design and load rating analysis

  • Demonstrated progressive job responsibilities.

  • Strong knowledge of industry standard computer software, including Microsoft Office programs, AutoCAD, MicroStation, MathCAD, MDX, STAAD, ABLRFD, AASHTOWare BrR, CSi, and LEAP Bridge, Manage municipal and State DOT projects.

  • Strong working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications

  • Strong working knowledge of NHDOT bridge design specifications and standard details.

Preferred experience in the following areas:

  • Load rating calculations and report preparation

  • Designing single and multi-span bridges in NH

  • Designing construction access solutions

  • Applying working knowledge of roadway and traffic design

  • Accelerated Bridge Construction Techniques

  • Steel bridge design including cross frames and splices.

  • Prestressed concrete bridge design

  • Substructure design
