Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a proactive Senior Social Impact Consultant to grow our highly experienced and specialist Social Impacts team. We operate from a modern, well-connected offices, within short walk of major rail stations, but also support home working with all employees provided modern laptop computers and iPhones. This is an opportunity to work as part of a friendly, multi-disciplinary and supportive team. You will gain valuable experience assessing social and equality impacts, developing and implementing social value strategies and plans as well as establishing the social value and of some of the UK’s highest profile projects.

As a member of one of the UK’s largest impact assessment practices, you will be involved in a range of large-scale projects, including strategic planning, major infrastructure, urban regeneration and environmental enhancement schemes. You will also have a leading role in growing AECOM’s social value consultancy offer and contribute to the development of innovative approaches to capturing social value for our clients.

The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team providing services including equality and social impact assessment and social value. We are involved in high profile projects for the public and private sectors. Our leading clients include Highways England, HS2 Limited, Transport Scotland and Transport for London as well as local authorities across the country. A selection of our current and recent projects includes:

  • A303 Amesbury to Berwick Down (Stonehenge) Development Consent Order - Equality Impact Assessment (Highways England);

  • Measurement of social value created by the HS2 Phase 2b project through implementation of a Skills, Employment and Education Plan and an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy (for HS2 Limited)

  • Child Right and Wellbeing Impact Assessment, Fairer Scotland Duty Assessment, Island Community Impact Assessment and Equality Impact Assessment of Scotland’s second Strategic Transport Review (for Transport Scotland);

  • Assessment of the equality impacts of high profile urban regeneration schemes in London (for various local authorities); and

  • Measurement of the social value of Battersea Power Station Development Company’s Flagship Community Programmes.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the job / project accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:

  • Produce Equality Impact Assessments, Diversity Impact Assessments and Social and Distributional Impact Assessments for projects.

  • Contributing to securing and delivering new social impact/social value work.

  • Develop social value strategies and plans for clients.

  • Contribute to work winning through preparation of social value tender responses.

  • Act as social value manager for large scale projects and client frameworks.

  • Coach and development of Graduate and Consultant level team members.

  • Establish strong working relationships with other members of the Environment and Sustainability team as well as with other teams across AECOM.

Minimum Requirements

  • Knowledge and evidenced understanding of the implications of the Public Sector Services Act 2012 and the Equality Act 2010 in relation to planning, major infrastructure, urban regeneration and environmental enhancement schemes.

  • Experience in social and/or equality impact assessment of projects, policies or plans.

  • Experience in the development of social value plans and measurement of the social value created by projects.

  • Knowledge and experience of using social value measurement tools such as the national TOMs framework

  • Some experience of project management, including client liaison and the financial management aspects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, Diploma and/or Master’s degree.
