In the quarter four we will be looking to recruit a Senior ITS Consultant Engineer to work in the Technology Services team. This position will be based primarily in the Manchester – New York Street office.
The Technology Services team works closely with clients and partners, largely in the Transportation Sector, although this role will undoubtedly support other market sectors and regions due to the specialist nature of the role.
Our current portfolio of work is focused on Cooperative ITS, CAV, smart traffic management, sustainable technology solutions etc. to improve the future transport of passengers and goods. There will be a requirement to travel UK&I wide as well as opportunities to support business development and delivery outside of the UK&I.
As a Senior Engineer, you will be expected to contribute to the design, development and technical delivery of projects and achieve enduring results. Duties and responsibilities include:
Undertake a variety of project work relating to ITS projects under the direction of Project Manager(s).
Planning, design and implementation of ITS assets on Highways England network e.g. VMS, MIDAS, CCTV.
Planning, design and implementation of Urban and Inter-Urban projects.
Knowledge of HA ITS systems including Regional Control Centres.
Power and communication design for ITS assets.
Develop user requirements through discussion with Clients, other stakeholders and the Project Team.
Undertake site visits to collect relevant data and supervise installation and testing of equipment.
Prepare Design/documents / drawings in accordance with the requirements of our Quality Assurance System, Relevant Standards and Codes of Practice under the direction of a Project Manager.
Assemble and ensure all calculations, drawings, correspondence and other project documents are in good order.
Maintain the Project Management Plan and obtain the instructions of the Project Director and Project Manager concerning policy on quality records and retention.
Liaise with, engineers and designers to understand their design requirements and provide technical advice to manufacturing and construction technicians.
Ensure all works are compliant with industry and health and safety standards and protocols.
Work on multi discipline commissions; supporting in the preparation of detailed ITS design for major highway / urban commissions.
Lead the preparation / review / checking of highly technical reports.
Conduct site visits and surveys when required
Present working information for use in all stages of the project, tender, manufacture/construction and installation
Produce installation and manufacturing documentation
Maintain accurate records.
Collaborate with different teams across AECOM and project partners to support the development and delivery of bids and projects.
Highly motivated individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work on their own with minimum supervision
Knowledge of engineering principles and ability to create and read technical drawings
The ability to transfer, display and manipulate your work using Microsoft Office and other programmes
Attention to detail to create accurate and detailed drawings and check other colleagues' work for accuracy and quality
Communication skills and relationship building to work with clients and other engineers to understand and interpret their designs
Detailed knowledge and experience of Highways England standards, procedures and Project Control Framework (PCF).
Teamwork - essential to be able to work in a team.
Organisation and time management to complete work to project deadlines
A flexible approach to decision making.
Mathematical skills to complete calculations and estimates
Problem solving, creativity and innovation in order to come up with solutions to design problems
Knowledge of health and safety requirements in order to design in line with industry standards.
Previous experience of working on ITS or in a similar field.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Enthusiastic, hard-working and ability to learn new technologies and techniques with ambition and drive.
Excellent planning and organisational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Qualified ideally with a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or similar related subject
