AECOM’s Economics Team is seeking a Senior Consultant. The team is integral to AECOM’s Design, Planning and Economics Team that offers professionals specializing in economic development, regeneration, strategic planning, design and master planning. The Economics Team have a very varied portfolio of work, supporting the delivery of some of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects. Examples include:
The development of business cases and option appraisals for regeneration projects and programmes;
Economic Impact assessments of some of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects (e.g. High Speed 2);
Economic strategy and policy development focused on growth sectors, employment and skills, and Government support programmes; and
Economic research and analysis to inform national and local economic development and regeneration priorities.
Responsible as part of the Planning + Economics team at AECOM for helping to win and deliver significant projects covering:
Economic growth, sectoral and other spatial strategies from local to national level and overseas.
Socio-economic impact assessments of infrastructure and development schemes to support business cases and funding applications.
Case making for and feasibility of a wider range of economic development projects and programmes.
Design and complete primary and secondary research projects and data analysis to develop a compelling evidence base.
Evaluations of projects, programmes and policies to show impact and value for money
Key roles and responsibilities required of a Senior Consultant include:
Undertake all aspects of consultancy project delivery from project design through to management, delivery and client care;
Play role in work winning either by developing bids that successfully respond to client tenders or via proactive business development;
Proactive and client focused, understanding the needs of the project and offering high quality, professional advice;
Delivery of Project Manager KPIs, including customer focus, project set up, communication & team management, risk management and quality, change control, commercial management, and safety health & environment;
Ownership of financial responsibilities with projects and assignments and expected to meet financial, marketing, and management goals; and
Provide guidance to junior staff within teams and manage junior and graduate staff as appropriate.
An ability to create justifications for investment based on sound evidence and argument for a range of different project and programme types including property development, economic development, transport, housing, employment, skills and training amongst others.
A track record in economic development with some specialised areas. This could include land use planning and property development, transport and infrastructure projects, business support, employment and skills, inward investment and other relevant areas.
A portfolio of work which demonstrates excellent technical, literacy and numeracy skills.
Detailed analytic and numerical skills supported by spreadsheet and other software skills
A track record of contributing to innovative economic development solutions and working across complex local, regional and national stakeholder relationships.
A highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills.
A team player who can work as part of wide project teams including other technical specialists.
- Degree in geography, economics or a related discipline and a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in a similar field, or overall equivalent experience.
