Job Summary

AECOM’s Buildings and Places division is a multi-disciplinary consultancy focusing primarily on the commercial, healthcare, education and industrial sectors.

The Architecture Practice is a key, lead design function involved in the design of offices, local authority projects, schools, emergency services buildings, airport terminals, prisons, railway stations and depots. The Practice also specializes in the design of industrial projects worldwide. These projects incorporate processes at the very cutting edge of emergent technology, primarily in the manufacturing, distribution, warehousing, data processing, automotive, aerospace, pharmaceutical and energy generation sectors.

Clients include Amazon, BMW, DHL, GE, Jaguar Land Rover, Manchester Airport Group, Rolls Royce, Shell, UPS and other leading brand names, all of which expect the very best design solutions.

The Practice is proud of its high quality work, is fully BIM enabled, produces high quality 4D visualizations and uses the very latest collaborative and digitally transformative design technologies.

Forward workload is buoyant and growing with several large projects recently won. We are therefore recruiting exceptional Senior Architectural Technologists / Technicians to join our busy design studio in Manchester.

Applications are sought from suitably experienced architectural technologists / technicians wishing for a step-up in their career as well as those already established in a senior architectural technologist / technician role.


As a Senior Architectural Technologist / Technician you will work with senior members of our teams on a wide range of projects at all stages of the design and construction process. From day one, you will be involved in and take a key role in important and challenging projects. Every day will be different, and you will be required to use your skills and knowledge to solve problems and provide key input into our projects. You will work in a team to provide technical solutions, and your day could involve anything from producing designs, specifications and calculations, to preparing technical reports, travelling to construction sites or participating in client meetings.

Core responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the preparation of conceptual design work and the presentation of projects.

  • Assisting in the development of project proposals and feasibility studies.

  • Leading in the technical delivery and implementation of projects including preparing working drawings, specifications and contract documentation.

Minimum Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • HNC, BA, BSc or equivalent architectural technology / technician qualification.

  • Strong spatial and technical ability with strong analytical and organizational skills.

  • Excellent computer graphic skills.

  • Sound knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, NBS Create, Adobe and the MS suite of programmes.

  • Eligible to work in the UK

Desirable Criteria:

  • Excellent 3D computer and / or CGI visualization skills will be an advantage.

  • Interest in all aspects of architecture and construction technology from concept to detail design.

  • Ambitious, energetic and hard-working. Highly motivated with excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant work experience in architect or architectural technology led practices.
