Job Description
Aecom are seeking a Regional Director to join the Building Services team in our Manchester office to lead the 30 strong MEP engineers located there and contribute to the leadership of the wider Midlands and North Region.
About the role:
Aecom are looking to appoint a Regional Director (Electrical or Mechanical background) who has proven leadership skills and is familiar working closely with clients & Architects to deliver major UK, European & Worldwide projects. A strong knowledge and experience of the Greater Manchester marketplace is essential. The candidate needs to be enthusiastic self-motivated person with excellent team leadership skills as well as written and verbal communication skills.
About the Office & team:
The MEP team currently consists of approx. 30 engineers ranging from Associate director to Graduates with an intention to grow in size over the next few years. The Manchester office also has a large Project Management and Quantity Surveying team who are very strong in the local marketplace along with a team of Structural engineers.
The Manchester Office works very closely with our Leeds office and the candidate maybe required to work in these offices from time to time and resources being shared both ways to ensure teams are supported when needed.
The Manchester & Leeds offices have an established track record of successfully delivering local and overseas projects. Some of our flagship work include.
Manchester Studios, BBC Wales HQ, East Brookes Studios, Shepperton Studios, Marine Lakes Centre, Engine House 2.0 (Salford University), Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. There are also projects in other sectors such as MoJ/HMP projects and defence.
Job Responsibilities:
To Lead a team of engineers, specialists and coordinate and support the AECOM Leadership team.
To actively participate in the development of the team and grow AECOM’s market share in the local market as well as for projects further afield.
To manage & build client and architect relationships with the aim to get new & repeat work
Lead bids and act as team leader for projects, from feasibility through to operational phase for Building Services Projects.
To negotiate additional fees and change control.
To act as the main point of contact with design teams.
To act as project manager for the AECOM/Client contract, managing fee expenditure and program.
Ensure financial targets and internal KPI’s are meet including motivating others to contribute.
To prepare and present designs, reports and specifications.
Contribute to the update of AECOM standards.
Be competent to deliver, review & approve engineering solutions
To act as a mentor to junior staff, promoting CPD activities.
To maintain and enhance expertise within the team and as an individual.
To lead and support AECOM Net zero carbon strategy
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Knowledge and experience of the local market.
A highly motivated individual with excellent technical understanding of building services for the different sectors along with a good overview of the other disciplines in building services
Significant track record of leading design teams.
Experience in project management within a defined fee budget and program.
Ability to speak fluently and communicate effectively in written reports and oral presentations.
An experienced Building Services Engineer presently holding a senior position
Relevant experience in Building Services design, including areas such as specification writing, calculations, and developing designs from first principles and a conversant with UK codes and practices.
Experience of seeing conceptual designs through to completion and dealing directly with clients.
Able to make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree educated in electrical or mechanical engineering or related discipline, ideally Chartered or at least with qualifications leading to this.
