Position Title Principal Bridge Engineer
United Kingdom - Greater Manchester
We are currently recruiting for a Principal Bridge Engineer in our centrally located Manchester office.
Our Manchester office has an established track record of successfully delivering bridge engineering schemes for more than 25 years mainly in the North West but also throughout the UK. Our office, located at the heart of Manchester City Centre, has multi-disciplinary transportation assessment and design capability in rail and highway schemes and works closely with other disciplines from the Geotechnical, Civils, Environment, Transport Planning and Development Sectors.
A selection of our current and recent projects includes:
Warrington West Station – We are currently undertaking the design (Forms F001, F002 and F003) of a new station which involves s footbridge crossing the tracks, staircases, lift shafts, platforms on both sides. We provide the design of all the civil and structural elements. This requires liaisons with all other disciplines such as geotechnical team, M & E, CCTV, Architects and others.
Grip E PBIs and Assessments: We have been appointed by Bolton CC to undertake the principle Bridge Inspections and Assessments of 63 structures.
Teesside Station: We have been appointed by Peel to undertake the feasibility of removing a footbridge and one platform from the station. We are also appointed to undertake the feasibility study for the remedial work of the other platform. These require NR forms (F001, F002 and F003).
A629- Phase 2 Halifax Town Centre Improvement: We are the designer for all the structural elements associated with the improvement to the highway scheme. This included designing a number retaining walls and widening existing bridge structures
AMAZON: We have been commissioned by Amazon to undertake the feasibility study for the precast prestressed solution to eight modular buildings in UK and around Europe.
A38 Derby Junctions: We have been commissioned by the Highway England to undertake the feasibility study to the production of AIP for all the relevant bridge structures (12 no.s) associated with the scheme.
TAA: We currently appointed by Stockport MBC to act as Technical Approval Authority on their behalf to review the A6 Travis Brow Scheme.
Inspection and Assessments of bridge structures: We have been commissioned by TfGM to undertake the inspection and assessment of 9 Network Rail related bridge structures.
As a Principal Bridge Engineer you will have the following daily responsibilities:
Undertake and project manage rail and road bridges, and associated structures engineering schemes, from inspection and assessment, feasibility through to detailed design.
Take responsibility for the contribution of Engineers and Technicians as appropriate.
Responsible for production through to client sign off of Technical Approval documentation.
Hands on technical design on road and/or rail structures.
Hands on assessment of road and/or rail structures.
Leading structural inspections and verification of all external reporting.
Excellent technical and communication skills both verbal and written.
Production of tenders including quality submissions and fee estimation.
Project Management including programme and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery.
Mentoring graduate engineers in their progress to Charteredship.
Bidding for work and contract negotiations.
Significant experience with bridge and related structural inspection assessment and design schemes in road and/or rail projects.
Good interpersonal skills including relationship building and communication at all levels and work collaboratively across the organisation; listening to other points of view while still being persuasive.
Proven design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget.
Experience of a range of forms of contract such as NEC3, JCT, Govt Frameworks, FIDIC.
Experience in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
High level technical skills in current inspection, assessment and design and be able to lead teams of graduate and senior engineers in such projects.
Previous exposure with clients of both national and local authorities, together with major contractors.
Ability to manage a team and project
Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation.
Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering.
Ideally educated to MSc level or equivalent.
Chartered Engineer with ICE or IstructE
