The Civil Design Engineer is responsible for undertaking designs , specifications , reports , drawing production and supervising a number of technicians/assistant engineers and for site duties as required.. Projects will range from alignment design of road horizontal alignments, vertical profiles and super elevation to AASHTO standards or equivalent, along with experience in roads/highway alignment modelling software MX or Civils 3D, also drainage and sewerage design with good knowledge of WINDES.
Creating layout/design of at-grade urban junctions (e.g. signalized / unsignalized junctions / roundabouts) taking into account traffic flows, turning movements, storage requirements.
Design urban/rural freeway/expressways, grade-separated interchanges, exit and entrance ramps, and familiarity with various types of merges/diverges.
Creating & designing urban/rural traffic sign and lane-marking design, including the usage and location of various sign types and sign-plate design, by understanding & using specification of road furniture, such as kerbing, barriers and pedestrian fencing etc.
Design of infrastructure and all services/utilities provision for regeneration and new development schemes
Design of airport infrastructure packages including park and rides, car parks, set-down areas ,
Liaise with the design team & project Manager to produce various tender drawings & tender documents
Use terrain modelling and volume calculation from models, especially for road/site formation earthworks and pavement volumes using MX or Civils 3D , preparation of estimates, and Bill of Quantities.
Responsible for preparation of technical specifications for civil engineering construction, and conditions of contract.
Create road drainage, sewerage and sub-soil drainage design, preferably using appropriate drainage design software.
Responsible for preparation of technical reports on various civil engineering construction, maintenance & rehabilitation in accordance with relevant standards.
Specific Skills Required:
Good working knowledge of NEC3 contracts or similar
Ideally some experience of Civils 3D and WINDES
Specific industry and project experience – drainage & sewerage, highways , regeneration , airports , nuclear
Requirements for driving license
Chartered Membership of ICE or other Professional Institution, or working towards Chartership ideally
- Previous experience within a Consultancy desirable
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Civil)
