Job Summary

The team are delivering the design on a host of projects in the UK, Ireland and further afield in a range of sectors, including Healthcare, Residential, Commercial, Transport, Sports, Mixed Use and Retrofit.
Our Façade Engineering team are seeking a creative and enthusiastic Graduate Engineer to join this specialist division of the Building & Engineering Group. The candidate will be based in AECOM’s head office in London, Aldgate, or in the Manchester office, with flexible working hours and working location. As a Graduate Engineer, you will provide vital support to the team on the design of bespoke façade systems, material research and construction reviews on a vast range of projects both in the UK and on an international scale. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Graduates commencing or continuing their careers with the AECOM Facade engineering group will be working closely with the Façade engineering team, who will guide and mentor you through the initial stages of their career whilst working on live projects.
Your key responsibilities, with support from your team, may include the following:
Developing skillset focused around the design and analysis of bespoke façade solutions.
Participating and contributing to design workshops, where different façade solutions are determined and proposed.
Creating designs, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
Conducting research for a broad palette of materials
Contributing to a wide range of projects as the workload dictates
Learning how to use technical engineering software and using this knowledge to develop concept details.
Liaising with other disciplines within the project team to coordinate design.
Carrying out drawing, analysis and site reviews during the construction stage alongside an experienced engineer.
Training is provided whilst you are engaged on specific projects through our formal training scheme that could potentially lead to you becoming a Chartered Engineer with the CIBSE Society of Facade Engineers. Training is delivered ‘on the job’ with the active projects we deliver and through engagement on external and internally delivered training programmes. Training will develop graduates’ knowledge of:
Façade element studies used in current developments
Practical application of the current design software that allows us deliver design solutions efficiently and effectively,
The skills necessary to present our engineering solutions – this will include hand sketching and an understanding of the use of CAD drawing software.
The training will ensure all our engineers have a full set of design skills and are equipped to engage with the wider design and contractor teams.
Early work with us will typically involve:
Assisting in the development of our projects through the different design stages
Attending meetings and workshops with other design professionals such as architects through to inspections during the construction phase.
As our graduates develop they are expected to take on more responsibility in managing projects which in turn leads to more challenges and rewarding career progression.
Minimum Requirements
The following attributes and requirements are anticipated in the graduates we wish to recruit:-
Master’s degree accredited by a professional structural engineering institution.
Ideally degree qualification at 2:1 or higher in building engineering or architecture.
Enthusiasm and drive to become a Chartered Engineer.
A keen interest in the Façade Engineering industry.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal
You must have the right to work in the UK as we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position,
Preferred Qualifications
One or more of the below items are desirable but are not essential requirements.
A knowledge of any type of CAD drawing software
A knowledge of structural or thermal analytic software
Placement experience or similar in an engineering environment (ideally structural or façade based)
An understanding of the RIBA Plan of Work
Demonstration of the desire to create opportunity or make the most of opportunities to develop academic, engineering or life experiences.
