AECOM's Buildings & Places (B&P) UK&I Pursuits Team leads and manages B&P's largest and most strategic tender submissions across it's established markets, bringing together strategy, positioning, bid management, co-ordination, writing, visualisation, training and knowledge professionals - and through a culture of collaboration and sharing. The B&P UK&I Pursuits team's role is to: prepare and respond to the prospect pipeline, drive strategy, oversee positioning activities, manage and lead the creation and production of winning submissions and drive bidding improvements and best practice across all sectors within the UK & Ireland.
Our bid writer graduates will gain valuable experience of producing technically accurate, well written, high scoring, compelling and excellently presented expressions of interest and tender submissions. B+P UK&I Pursuits Team bid writers will share our enthusiasm and determination to be part of a winning team. Our bid writers will also gain experience of delivering persuasive, high quality content using industry standard approaches.
Whilst positioned as a writer, the expectation is that the individual will be involved throughout the full breadth of the work winning lifecycle. In addition to the writing phase, they will also work with colleagues to understand the opportunity, define the win strategy, plan response content and contribute to the libraries which the team maintains. In doing so, they will work collaboratively with other B+P UK&I Pursuits Team members, technical teams and leadership.
The bid writer will work in a challenging, dynamic and deadline driven team environment to contribute to strategic tenders from prequalification to proposal stages. They will be responsible for translating complex technical approaches and ideas into clear, well-written, differentiating and high quality responses.
We see writing as an integral part of the work winning process – rather than a narrowly defined activity which takes place post bid launch. Our writers should be naturally curious and proactive in asking questions to shape complete and compelling responses – we will encourage individuals to have an inquisitive and journalistic nature, hunting down the story from the outset.
With an eye for identifying continuous improvement and learning, the writer will play a key role in submitting best practice responses to our libraries, delivering appropriate training to upskill technical teams and in the ongoing preparation and maintenance of supporting information (including project data sheets and CVs).
Working as part of a collaborative team which provides development opportunities for all, we encourage the transfer of skills within the B+P UK&I Pursuits Team. Our writers, therefore, understand and where appropriate, support bid managers in their roles and vice versa.
Attend and participate in bid strategy meetings and other associated workshops to fully understand the opportunity, the client’s requirements/expectations and AECOM’s value proposition.
Undertake research and review the RFP/ITT documents to build their understanding and gather proposal information - including lists of questions, information and material required.
Work with bid managers to prepare bid deliverable matrices and programmes for the effective creation of the response – ensuring adequate time for design, writing, editing, review and production.
Lead and facilitate content planning/storyboard sessions and bid reviews attended by large groups of technical (and often senior) staff – listening, challenging and distilling the story which must be told.
Proactively develop and manage relationships with a network of subject matter experts who will provide relevant content – interviewing them to extract a complete story where appropriate.
Take authoring responsibility for large sections of the proposal, using clear and persuasive writing techniques to drive content to consistent and professional standards in line with client’s requirements.
Read, review, edit and finalise proposal responses from other contributors – where necessary identifying and re-working material and agreeing the response structure with the bid manager.
Work with creative graphic design teams to define how submissions will be laid out, helping to create preliminary templates and identifying where images and visualisation will help convey messages.
Identify strong written content for inclusion and provide editing and maintenance support to a library of pre-written proposal content which is accessed across the UK and Ireland region.
Recognise systematic process problems and recommend/implement improvements in line with our best practice approach.
