Director Roads – UK North
As part of our growth strategy, we are currently seeking to appoint a Director to lead the growth and delivery of our Roads Market (Strategic Highways, Local Roads and Asset Management) in five UK/Ire Districts (Ireland, Scotland, North, Midlands and South). The Roads business sits within Civil Infrastructure, providing both urban and rural highway design services to National Transport Agencies and Local Authorities throughout UK and Ireland. The key objective of this role is to be responsible for leading a large Roads Team located in offices throughout the District. You will lead the local Regional and Associate Directors in the leadership of people, projects, clients and business performance. You will have a strong knowledge of the local market and take a lead role in securing work for the team going forward and to support the expansion of AECOM’s Roads offering and to generate higher profitability.
The role will be both internal and externally facing, providing leadership to the local team but also developing strategic relations with key clients and delivering high-quality strategic projects to our clients. The individual will need to be an excellent communicator and have a proven ability to lead a large team, ideally with experience of local, urban and strategic roads schemes.
Provide visible leadership to the Roads Team and sets a clear strategy to deliver profitable, organic growth of the Road Sector.
Coordinate staff working in the Road Sector and champions collaborative, multi-disciplinary ways of working across the local offices and wider AECOM business.
Coordinate with the Roads and C+I Operations team to mange risk and commercial issues in the District and maximise profitability.
Work with District and Market Sector Leaders, Sub Sector Leaders, Discipline Leaders, and other Sectors to deliver growth.
Work with the Market Sector Lead to identifying and maximise upcoming pursuits for key clients.
Provide visible safety leadership & champion Safety in Design.
Regularly meet with clients, attends events and promotes the brand.
Work with Work Winning Team to deliver a high win rate and grow backlog and manages proposal development in compliance with AECOM policies.
Track recruitment needs and works with Market Sector Leader & District Leader to fill roles.
Perform various management, leadership, and people accountability responsibilities for a specific technical group or department.
Has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating technical assignments.
Plan and develop engineering tasks concerned with unique or complex problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches.
Maintain liaison with units within the organization and individuals inside and outside of the organization.
Responsible for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field. Work at this level usually requires extensive progressive experience.
Work under minimal supervision. Supervision received is essentially administrative with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
A highly experienced Project Delivery Director and/or successful Operations Director within a consultancy business.
A proven track record of profitable delivery of major highway and highway improvement projects for national and local authority clients in a consultancy business setting.
A strong communicator, with excellent inter-personal and leadership and management skills.
Excellent organisation and time management skills.
Desire to innovative for the more efficient delivery of highway projects for our clients.
The drive to lead and inspire a large team of professionals to deliver effectively and efficiently for our clients.
