AECOM’s Economics Team is seeking a Consultant. The team is integral to AECOM’s Design, Planning and Economics team that offers professionals specializing in economic development, regeneration, strategic planning, design and master planning. The Economics Team has a very varied portfolio of work, supporting the delivery of some of the UK’s largest infrastructure and economic development projects. Examples include:
The development of business cases and option appraisals for projects and programmes;
Economic Impact assessments (e.g. Crossrail2, High Speed 2);
Economic strategy and policy development focused on growth sectors, employment and skills, and Government support programmes; and
Economic research and analysis to inform national and local economic development and regeneration priorities.
Responsible as part of the Economics team at AECOM for helping to deliver and win significant projects covering:
Economic growth, sectoral and other spatial strategies from local to national level .
Socio-economic impact assessments of infrastructure and development schemes to
Developing and appraising business cases and funding applications.
Case making for and feasibility of a wider range of economic development projects and programmes.
Design and deliver primary and secondary research projects and data analysis
Evaluations of projects, programmes and policies to show impact and value for money
Key roles and responsibilities required of a Consultant include:
Undertake aspects of consultancy project delivery from design through to delivery;
Play a role in work winning and research to support business development;
Undertake data collection, primary and secondary research, literature reviews and case study reporting;
Consultation and interviews with a range of stakeholders utilising different approaches (e.g. telephone, face-to-face and electronic).
Delivery of high-quality quantitative and qualitative analysis across a number of short and longer term projects.
Interpretation of technical information/analysis in a clear, concise and credible manner, inputting into reports and proposals.
Supports in the creation of presentations for clients and internal presentations.
Taking on project management duties with a view to developing to a fully accredited PM within a year.

Effective time management and ability to multi-task ideally with some experience of project management
Be enthusiastic, work well in a team and individually, and have the ability to work on a large number of projects at once ensuring deadlines are met.
Able to demonstrate a commitment to continued education and improvement through participating in our approved training schemes
An ability to create justifications for investment based on sound evidence and argument for a range of different project and programme types including property development, economic development, transport, housing, employment, skills and training amongst others.
An interest and some experience in economic development or related areas this could include land use planning and property development, transport and infrastructure projects, business support, employment and skills, inward investment and other relevant areas.
A portfolio of work which demonstrates excellent technical, literacy and numeracy skills.
Ability to write clearly and proficiently to produce coherent, grammatically correct, analytical, and professional reports with supporting skills in word processing and presentational software
Detailed analytic and numerical ability supported by spreadsheet and other software skills
Holds an understanding of modelling techniques and the ability to apply them to research and analysis/comfortable in dealing with quantitative data and analysis
A track record of contributing to infrastructure and economic development projects working across complex local, regional and national stakeholder relationships.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to listen, allied with confidence, professionalism and maturity to enable strong team working and effective consultation with internal and external stakeholders
English language (fluent)
- Degree in geography, economics or a related discipline and a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in a similar field, or overall equivalent experience.
