AECOM Bridge Engineer in Manchester, United Kingdom

Job Summary

Are you a creative thinking engineer, with a desire to solve structural engineering problems? Take your knowledge of structural mechanics and fundamental engineering principles to the next stage, with us at AECOM. Our team in Manchester provides assessment, concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs on a wide range of schemes, either as standalone bridge commissions or as part of multidisciplinary major projects. Our clients are from the private and public sector and include long-term Framework Agreements such as AGMA and with Transport for Greater Manchester Framework (TfGM Framework) with numerous Local Authorities together with Design and Build commissions for many major Contractors.

Our Manchester office has an established track record of successfully delivering bridge engineering schemes for over many years, in the UK and overseas. The role will suit a self-motivated individual looking to assist the senior/principal engineers and advance their career both technically and in project management as part of a dynamic team.

  • Lifting Bridge over river Weaver in West Cheshire

  • Stockport MBC & Bolton CC- AGMA projects

Here are some of the aspects you could be involved in as a Bridge Engineer:

Undertake rail and road bridges and associated structural engineering schemes from inspection and assessment, feasibility through to detailed design

Assist with supervision of Graduate Engineers and Technicians as appropriate

Assist with preparation of technical documentation through to client sign off of Technical Approval documentation

Hands-on technical design and assessment for road and/or rail structures

Structural inspections and reporting

Assist with Project Management including programme and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery

Minimum Requirements

Your experience will include a good mixture of the following:

  • Design experience of bridges and civil engineering structures

  • Experience in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Experience in the inspection and assessment of existing structures

  • Good knowledge of design to Eurocodes

  • Detailed understanding of the design process and interfacing with multiple disciplines

  • Good knowledge of structural mechanics and fundamental engineering principles

  • Manage your own work and be proactive to deliver

  • Ability to think creatively and solve structural engineering problems quickly and efficiently

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering or equivalent
