The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to independently perform and check bridge design calculations and plans for projects and prepare technical reports

  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced engineers

  • Specific tasks may include preparation of bridge designs, plans, and specifications, bridge inspection, task management, interaction with clients, and business development

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities

  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids

  • Work on a wide range of projects and tasks and assist with field research, data collection, data analysis, graphics, maps and data presentation, and report and proposal development

  • Responsible for overseeing and coordinating all technical aspects of small to mid-size projects

  • Demonstrated ability to build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering or other related field

  • 5+ years of experience, with an emphasis in civil engineering field of bridge design and/or inspection

  • Registration as a professional engineer

  • Proficiency in steel and concrete bridge design

  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as Conspan, RCPier, MicroStation)

  • Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
