Job Description
AECOM is seeking an experienced Utility Design Discipline Lead to be based in Los Angeles, California for the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project
JOB INFORMATION:
This position requires local travel, and ability to attend meetings at the project office in San Fernando Valley, CA a minimum of 3-5 days a week for the design phase of the project. While the position is primarily for East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project, AECOM has an impressive backlog of significant transportation projects in the Greater Los Angeles area and transit/rail projects across West Region and provides exceptional opportunity for professional growth.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leading utility design, utility engineering team and being the primary interface between various disciplines leads and supervise all aspects of utility studies, relocation and new design on large scale roadway, transit, and multi-modal projects for public transportation clients.
Coordinate with the Contractor and third-party stakeholders.
Identify utility conflicts and lead resolution meetings with the Contractor and LA Metro
Prepares status reports and maintain tracking log for issues and resolutions
Assisting in preparation of proposals for marketing pursuits, preparing fee proposals for utility design scope of work
Demonstration of design expertise, mentoring and leading a technical team of engineers and designers in preparation of plans and reports.
Management of all phases of projects (from beginning to close out) including but not limited to
Overseeing utility design team’s technical deliverables and meeting project schedules from design through construction, as necessary.
Supervise the production of project plans and reports.
Promote technical excellence on projects, ensuring that QA/QC checks are performed in accordance with discipline policy and procedures.
Ensure that discipline design work is coordinated with project staff and engineers from other disciplines by maintaining clear and frequent communications.
Establish budgets, ensure quality and timeliness of deliverables, and supervise the execution of work.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
BA/BS + 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
California PE License
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
12+ years of total experience.
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
10+ years of previous design experience in preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E) for new utilities, relocation of existing utilities.
Current working experience with design software Autodesk Civil 3D. Proficiency and knowledge of computer software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Project, Power BI, scheduling software, and SharePoint.
Knowledge of the City of Los Angeles, and County of Los Angeles Storm Drain and Sewer Design Manuals, Federal Statutes, and California State Statutes.
Familiarity with 3rd Party Utility Companies such as Los Angeles Department Water and Power, Southern California, Southern California Edison, ATT & Franchise Utility Purveyor procedures and coordination
Experience with various project delivery mechanics – design build/progressive design build preferred.
Proven track record with large client account management, mega-project pursuits, and engineering/planning staff development.
Experience reviewing utility/railroad designs to ensure compliance with utility/railroad design standards.
A general understanding of land survey principles, and the ability to read and plot legal descriptions.
A desire to work with external contractors/Subconsultants, AECOM’s other divisions/regions and interact directly with major clients.
Demonstrate leadership skills and communication skills requiring client interaction.
Ability to work with various multi-disciplined teams is essential to this role.
Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), and the ability to speak knowledgeably with other consultants, stakeholders, other governmental agencies, and individual citizens.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to track large data sets, and the ability to illustrate, analyze and convey those data sets effectively.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $106,800.34 - $197,580.63.
