AECOM is looking for a Systems Engineer to join our Rail and Transit leadership team in the US West Region. The candidate will be responsible for leading the systems design discipline throughout the 31 states in the US West which includes transit agencies such as BART, Caltrain, VTA, LA Metro, MTS, DART, CTA and Sound Transit.
The Systems Engineer will work collaboratively with a team of Engineers and Specialists across rail systems disciplines (Systems Engineering, Signals, Electrification Systems, Data Communications, and Project Controls), Project Managers, Systems Engineers, Signals Engineers, Analysts, and Coordinators. In addition to regional management, the candidate will represent the US West Region in collaboration with our Global Rail Systems Engineering team and will be given opportunities to use your transferrable skills to define processes, create execution plans, and be the technical lead for projects throughout the world.

Performs various management, leadership, and people accountability responsibilities for a specific technical group or department.
Has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating technical assignments.
Generally requires multi-disciplinary knowledge of engineering.
Plans and develops engineering tasks concerned with unique or controversial problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches.
Maintains liaison with units within the organization and individuals inside and outside of the organization.
Responsible for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field. Work at this level usually requires extensive progressive experience.
Works under minimal supervision. Supervision received is essentially administrative with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
Manages group of engineers and/or technicians, coordinating activities of the unit.
Bachelors degree and minimum 8 years of demonstrated related experience
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related engineering discipline from an accredited University that is recognized by the Professional Engineers of California;
Professional Engineer in California;
Minimum of 10 years of experience in transit or related engineering field
Minimum of 10 years of experience in Systems Engineering domain is preferred;
Proven ability to work successfully in multi-disciplinary teams and across different business units;
Experience in different Phases of the Engineering Design Life and familiarity with Systems Engineering standards;
Knowledge of identification and management of project risks.
Understanding of the System Safety Certification processes and RAMS will be an asset;
Knowledge of signaling principles, train control solutions including CBTC (moving block or fixed block) and PTC, and railway standards such as CENELEC, AREMA and MIL-STD;
Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio;
Able to travel domestically or internationally to support proposals, projects and Client’s needs;
Strong communication skills, presentation skills, and report writing skills.
