AECOM Senior Project Manager - Environmental Planner IV in Los Angeles, California

Job Summary

AECOM has an opening for an Environmental Planner IV to be based in our Los Angeles, CA office. The candidate will primarily lead environmental CEQA/NEPA clearance and associated technical studies on projects, including utility infrastructure projects, public works projects, local facilities, transportation projects, and other related projects. Work will include interaction with project managers and task leaders; Client staff; and representatives from cities, counties, and local, regional, state, and federal agencies. May serve as a project manager, deputy project manager, task manager, or technical specialist depending on the project assignment. Include engaging in business development activities and pursuits.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing CEQA and NEPA oversight, authority, and accountability for projects

  • Serving as a Project Manager on different size projects

  • Responding to a variety of ongoing requests to support projects under our existing On-Call contracts, including refining task needs, scoping and costing tasks, and identifying and assigning staff

  • Overseeing multiple projects simultaneously within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensuring quality standards on project deliverables

  • Engage in business development activities and pursuits.

  • Providing leadership in mentoring personnel.

  • Research, writing, and impact analysis for a wide range of CEQA and NEPA documents

  • Subconsultant and technical staff management;

  • Financial management and reporting on ongoing tasks

  • Environmental permitting support; and Meeting coordination and moderation.

  • Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others.

  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed planning products.

  • Usually performs as a staff advisor and consultant as to a technical specialty, a type of facility, industry, equipment or program function.

  • Monitors and ensures compliance with local, state and federal laws.

  • Oversees specialized planning functions, such as large-scale new development proposals and environmental studies.

  • Advises the Planning Director on all planning-related matters.

  • Advises various councils, boards, commissions and elected officials in planning related issues

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in environmental planning or related field + six years of successfully coordinating and managing CEQA/NEPA document preparation and technical studies for Caltrans projects or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in successfully coordinating and managing CEQA/NEPA document preparation and technical studies for projects in southern California.

  • MA/MS in Environmental Planning or related field

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to effectively manage projects and interact with teams of staff, subconsultants, and clients

  • Ability to write a range of CEQA and NEPA documents and supporting technical documentation for infrastructure projects

  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate a high level of competence and experience in working with teams, clients, subcontractors, and regulatory personnel, and Exceptional detail orientation and attention to quality.

  • Experience in marketing and business development efforts in pursuit of new projects
