Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Health and Safety Consultant to be based in Long Beach, CA/Los Angeles, CA/Orange, CA.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Under minimal supervision, responsible for complex technical work in a wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements.

  • Overall responsibility and management of projects including but not limited to budgeting/schedule stage, procurement, through contract closeout.

  • Position has primary fiscal responsibility and key liaison between client for assigned project.

  • Maintains expert knowledge of specific government agency requirements.

  • Utilizes advanced techniques and diversified knowledge of environmental principles.

  • Assignments are usually self-initiated.

  • Uses independent judgment and discretion in data analysis and problem resolution.

  • Develops, implements and maintains safety and health programs, systems and procedures.

  • Monitors and prevents hazards and diseases that could be present in the work area.

  • Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace.

  • Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment's to minimize hazards.

  • Develops and conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs.

  • Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice.

  • Prepares reports and recommends corrective action.

  • Work includes technical responsibility for a major phase or component of a project.

  • Acts as a lead role for a team of ES&H specialists and/or support personnel.

  • Supervise, provide safety leadership, and mentor/ develop junior staff

  • Marketing, proposal writing and bringing in new work and clients as well as supporting existing projects and clients.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS degree in engineering, physical sciences, safety, or related field

  • A minimum of 6 years of EHS experience in a consulting, manufacturing, chemical, pharmaceutical, or refining industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Regulatory compliance audit fieldwork experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • 8+ years of CalOSHA experience in a consulting, manufacturing, chemical, pharmaceutical, or refining industry.

  • Experience in developing effective business proposals for providing competitive, high value EHS auditing services

  • Professional certification - CPEA, PE, CSP, CIH, or other equivalent certification

  • Experience with Process Safety Management

  • Excellent working knowledge of EHS regulations and consensus standards

  • Regulatory compliance audit fieldwork experience.

  • Project management experience

  • Ability to travel 10-25% of the time
