AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Geologist for employment in the Los Angeles office. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Field geologic and geomorphic mapping

  • Log exploratory borings during drilling and collect soil samples for analysis

  • Install monitoring wells

  • Perform assessment and oversight of subcontractors in the field

  • Perform desktop environmental assessments

  • Prepare boring logs, data analysis summary, generate subsurface cross sections and profiles, and report writing

  • Collect and enter data, and apply technical principles and theories

  • Conduct environmental assessments to define the nature and extent of contamination

  • Perform environmental sampling (predominantly soil and groundwater)

  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance

  • Prepare high-quality technical reports and environmental permit application packages

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

  • Assist Project Managers during budget and proposal preparation, development of the work plans and overall coordination of a variety of project management tasks related to new and on-going projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, geophysics, hydrogeology, geochemistry, environmental geology, geomorphology, hydrogeology)

  • 0-2 years of experience

  • Must be willing and prepared to work predominantly in the field to perform the field activities listed above.

  • Must be proficient with MS Office applications

  • Ability to write and convey thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner

  • Ability to learn through on-the-job experience

  • Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds and safely drive a full-size pickup truck

  • Must be able to work outdoors year-round

  • Willingness and availability to travel occasionally

  • Must possess a valid driver license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping and analysis

  • AutoCAD experience

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification

  • Experience performing field sampling
