AECOM has a position available for an Electrical Substation Engineer to support our growing Energy Business Line. This position has the possibility of being located at a variety of Energy offices in multiple locations across the United States. About Power
Our team provides a wide range of electrical engineering services across markets sectors including transmission (substations, OH/UG transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), power distribution (OH/UG power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), renewables (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, electrolyzers, etc.). We are looking for an up-and-comingleader with a power engineering background to promote our skills to new clients and maintain our existing client base. Qualified candidates will have a strong background in electrical power engineering coupled with experience leading tasks on projects.
The successful candidate is expected to be a detail orientated, experienced engineer who can make decisions independently under the guidance of senior staff. The focus of the experience must be in the power industry associated with electrical engineering and design of HV and MV substations, HV transmission systems, and MV distribution systems.
The responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to, the following:
Responsible for the electrical engineering design work on assigned projects under the guidance of senior staff
Under guidance of Lead Engineer, working with Project Engineer and Project Manager on developing design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activities
Performing Power system studies (load flow, short circuit, protective coordination, arc flash analysis)
One line and three-line diagrams
Protective relay and metering one line / three-line diagrams
AC/DC schematics
Panel Layouts
Equipment layouts and sectional views
Connection Diagrams
Bill of Materials
Cable Schedules
DC power distribution design
Developing construction and equipment specifications
Supporting projects during construction, start-up, and commissioning
Grounding Analysis and Design
Attending client meetings
Level specific responsibilities:
Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.
Identifies discrepancies in results.
Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
Assists in development of technical proposals.
Assists with estimates for the engineering budget and schedule
Minimum Requirements
BA/BS degree and 4+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Willingness to travel occasionally
Pre-employment verification of motor vehicle driving record will be conducted
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering preferred
Prefer 4+ years of experience as an Electrical Engineer associated with the design of HV and MV Substations, HV transmission systems, and MV distribution systems.
Ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
Strong familiarity with industry codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, etc).
Strong written and verbal skills with an ability to lead engineering tasks
Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.
Plant Startup and Commissioning Field Experience
Power systems analysis software experience (SKM, EasyPower, Etap).
