AECOM is looking for a motivated individual to provide dedicated onsite Safety, Health, and Environmental support and leadership for a complex remediation/demolition/restoration project in Carson, CA.
Ensures the company’s safety, health, and environment (SH&E) policy and procedural arrangements are complied with and enforced.
Assists with hazard assessments and mitigation planning, assesses occupational safety training needs and provides/coordinates training where needed, supports compliance with AECOM policy and procedures, OSHA, DOT, EPA and other applicable SH&E regulations, assesses subcontractor SH&E performance and qualifications, project SH&E auditing, supports requests for proposals, provides SH&E oversight, implements behavioral safety programs, practices incident prevention through design.
Supports the development of policy and procedure in accordance the AECOM America’s SH&E Program, develops SH&E communications, implements recognition and reward programs, and reports on AECOM SH&E performance.
Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including understanding of current business trends.
May have budgeting responsibilities.
Maintains self-knowledge of SH&E, keeps up to date with local legislation and company procedures.
Prepares, organizes and participates in site safety training programs.
Maintains close liaison with the Client’s and Contractor’s Safety Personnel.
Attends and leads regular safety meetings.
Checks safety requirements in method statements and permit to work procedures submitted by contractors.
Completes regular site safety inspections and ensure items requiring action are closed out to an acceptable standard.
Checks that all required safety standards and applicable safety regulations are observed.
Checks proper inspection, maintenance, calibration, and operation of all safety equipment.
Checks site security, fire, first aid, welfare facilities and procedures appropriate to the works are provided and properly maintained.
Investigates all incidents and near misses and reports in accordance with the Client requirements and as per the AECOM America’s SH&E Program.

BA/BS + 4 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; many projects clients are security sensitive.
Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in indoor and outdoor environments with uneven terrain. Variable environmental conditions include heat, dusts, noise, and chemicals.
This position requires frequent (more than 50% of the workday) standing/walking, keyboard/mouse operations, and working in an environment of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment; often (25-50% of the workday) performing repetitive bending/stooping, and lifting less than 25 pounds; occasionally (10-25% of the workday) power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), operating vehicles, climbing stairs, using portable ladders, wearing fall protection, performing repetitive or fine hand movements, and lifting of 25-50 pounds; rarely (less than 10% of the workday) working with arms above shoulder level, working at heights, working in confined spaces, working alone in isolated/remote areas, and lifting greater than 50 pounds.
Position will include conducting field work and wearing associated personal protective equipment, including but not limited to gloves, safety glasses/goggles, safety shoes/boots, hard hat, and hearing protection.
40hr OSHA HAZWOPER with 8hr Annual Refresher Training(s
Experience working in and/or supporting SH&E performance in the following industries is strongly desired: construction and oil & gas.
Knowledge of Federal and state SH&E regulations, as well as required reporting procedures.
8hr OSHA HAZWOPER Supervisor Training preferred.
30hr OSHA Construction Training
Documented experience as a site safety officer, remediation, and preferably residential construction, demolition
Preference for Confined Space Awareness Training, Fall Protection Awareness/Competent Person Training
Possessing an OSHA 10 Hour Construction Outreach Training card
