Job Summary

Are you interested in a career in Environmental Sciences? This entry level position offers a learning opportunity with a great team of Geologists, Scientists, Engineers, and Project Managers.. You’ll be conducting groundwater sampling for a long-term established oil & gas client with multiple locations at an exciting time. As part of a team of Environmental Technicians working for this client, you’ll be joining the program while some new, state-of-the-art remediation technology is being constructed and brought on-line.

You’ll apply your mechanical and problem-solving skills operating and maintaining multiple remediation systems and conducting environmental sampling per approved EPA methodology. We will train you on the use of a variety of techniques and tools so that you can be effective in this independent field role. You’ll also learn proper documentation techniques for data collection, field logs, and safety practices.

Tasks assigned may include biosparge system Operations and Maintenance (O&M) and inspection, free product extraction via vac truck, vapor extraction and treatment, extraction well O&M and inspections, monitoring well inspection and maintenance, free product sampling, and low-flow and standard purge sampling methods.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; many projects/ clients are security sensitive.

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.

  • Must possess a valid California driver's license

  • Demonstrated mechanical troubleshooting & repair skills

  • Candidate must be able to meet the medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical examination.

  • Excellent work ethic and team-player attitude.

  • Strong attention to detail, with proven ability to follow specific instructions.

  • An ability to effectively express his or herself orally and in writing to other project staff.

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, dryness, noise and chemicals; position requires the often operation of vehicles; occasionally standing/walking, repetitive bending/stooping, and lifting of less than 25 pounds; rarely working with arms above shoulder level, power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), climbing stairs, using portable ladders, wearing fall protection, performing keyboard/mouse operations, performing repetitive or fine hand movements, and lifting 25-50 pounds. Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment (e.g., hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, face shield, safety shoes/boots, hearing protection, and respirator), transporting/carrying sampling equipment, environmental samples and sample preservation coolers.

  • Able to work in an industrial setting such as an active petroleum refinery

  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office software suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel .

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior field environmental sampling experience

  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) eligible or currently possess one.

  • Trade certification or Associates Degree(s) a plus

  • First Aid/CPR training completion is preferred

  • 40 Hour HAZWOPER completion is preferred; Selected candidate will be required to complete 40 hour HAZWOPER training or annual refresher class.
