We are currently recruiting for a waste and resources management consultant to join our UK-wide Environment and Sustainability business unit / Climate Change, Sustainability and Resilience (CCSR) practice.
You will deliver consultancy and advisory services to internal and external clients across a range of end markets, primarily relating to waste permitting but with opportunities to work on a wider range of waste policy and assessment work, as well as other sustainability work within AECOM’s CCSR practice..
You should have a good knowledge and understanding of environmental issues, including environmental legislation and standards. You will have experience in waste management, environmental permitting, EHS management systems, resource use, waste minimisation and pollution prevention to help deliver projects across a wide range of sectors such as waste, water, nuclear, pharmaceuticals, construction, manufacturing, transport and public sector.
Project roles vary depending on skills and experience; you would be expected to work as part of larger teams for major projects as well as delivering small projects working alone or in a small team.
A typical week could involve:
Preparing project deliverables/technical reports such as: environmental permit applications, audits, waste/recycling strategies, environmental statements inputs, and waste need assessments;
Advising clients on permit compliance and participating in regulator discussions;
Collection and interpretation of data;
Liaising with a variety of stakeholders including: clients, regulators, and local authorities;
Travelling to meetings, sites and other AECOM offices (as required and subject to COVID-19 restrictions);
Contributing to managing tasks/projects covering technical, quality and financial management;
Business development, proposal writing and exploration of new work streams; and
Building long-term client relationships.
We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with the following:
Demonstratable experience and knowledge of waste/resource management;
Experience of multi-disciplinary working and managing smaller independent projects;
A desire to deliver technical excellence;
Experience of working to budgets and tight deadlines;
Confident user of Microsoft office software;
Commercial awareness for business development, marketing, and proposal preparation;
Great communication skills in English, fluency in other languages advantageous;
Strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities
Self-starter, who can design and deliver work under own initiative; and
Solid numeracy skills, confidence in working with large data sets and advanced Excel skills.
Working towards Chartered status with a relevant institution (e.g. CIWM).
Prior work in consultancy.

Fully qualified scientist. Utilizes scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.
Requires general familiarity within a broad field of scientific knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/fields.
Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.
Solves problems by use of combinations of standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
Participates in planning required to achieve prescribed objectives.
Conducts analysis and investigation work obtained from a variety of sources.
Performs inspections and tests to ensure compliance.
Participates in developing corrective measures and procedures. Formulates hypothesis, performs research and makes recommendation.

Strong science or engineering based undergraduate degree in a relevant environmental / science/ waste management discipline is required – a MSc or equivalent is desirable.
Experience of writing technical deliverables to a high standard.
Experience of working in/with the waste sector - waste permitting experience advantageous;
