AECOM Senior Consultant - Strategic Advisory in London, United Kingdom

Job Summary

We are seeking to appoint a Senior/Principal Consultant to join our Advisory team, spearheading the breadth of AECOM’s capabilities, providing decision-making advice to clients on policy, strategy, planning and funding/financing. The Advisory business’s aim is to be a leader in strategic advice shaping future debate on policy and planning, helping our partners realise future thinking now.

This role entails providing analysis/advice to clients, robustly managing and delivering projects, and helping to make Advisory’s vision a reality as part of a team, positioning AECOM as a strategic leader in the marketplace.

The role will be external facing; developing strategic relations with key clients, providing strong policy advice and analysis and delivering high-quality strategic projects to our clients. Success in this role will require a strong external focus, strengthening the AECOM brand at a senior level with key client organisations. It is anticipated that the role will help identify and secure commissions aligned to Strategic Advice building a reputation for advising clients at the outset of their challenges.

  • Building effective relationships with external clients, and a good understanding of industry challenges.

  • Developing policy options with clients and supporting workshops and events to build consensus for policy developments.

  • Logical thinker with excellent numerical skills able to provide intelligence from research and data analysis.

  • Ability to benchmark, write reports and prepare excellent presentations to clients

  • Transform data analysts into business intelligence and reporting capabilities.

  • Support the delivery of the Advisory Strategy to build the team, create a profitable unit and a recognisable brand within agreed timescales.

  • Delivery of projects and advice to high quality and client satisfaction.

  • Strategic thinker and self-starter adding to a positive culture of the team.

  • Support and lead the delivery of bids through early client engagement, translating win themes into winning bid submissions

  • Operate collaboratively to make best use of available resources across AECOM.

  • Undertake Health and Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design.

Minimum Requirements

  • Has a solid foundation of understanding or analysis of client business practices and goals; develops and formulates solutions to client problems on assigned projects.

  • Under general direction, responsible for the creation of work plans and task definitions.

  • Has broad technical knowledge but possesses an area of specialization or focus.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strategic and critical thinker with policy formulation, research/analysis and project delivery capabilities.

  • Logical, thinker with strong analytical skills and the ability to collect, organise, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy

  • Excellent communicator - a champion of the business with an excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to liaise/present directly with our clients.

  • Attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality work accurately.

  • Relevant academic professional qualifications to reflect the level of seniority of the role.

  • Understanding and practical application of project management.

  • Managing stakeholders and delivering high quality advice/solutions in complex environments with multiple stakeholders.

  • Between five and ten years’ experience in one or more of the following infrastructure sectors; water, energy, transport, telecoms working in; policy development, strategy, consultancy/advisory or similar.

As a [senior/principal] Consultant in AECOM you would:

  • Lead projects and bids with moderate levels of complexity

  • Analyse complex issues and be accountable for solving moderate to challenging problems
