AECOM is seeking a world-class, ambitious designer to take on the role of Regional Director of City Masterplanning based out of its London Headquarters

The role forms part of AECOM’s UK+I Urban Advisory offer that encompasses Masterplanning, Town Planning, Economics and Sustainability & Resilience teams; the successful applicant will work closely with the wider national Urban Advisory leadership team and EMEA CITY PROGRAMME Lead. City Masterplanning plays a leading role in this city transformational programme through visioning, placemaking, economics and integrated infrastructure to create robust, deliverable solutions. The individual will consequently be expected to:
Identify and win commissions that will develop the practice’s portfolio, profile and influence in City masterplanning; and
Define and develop the practice’s corporate masterplanning design ethos and culture.
In this role they will form part of a team that has been responsible for the delivery of significant, award winning masterplanning and urban design projects across the UK and throughout the world, including: London 2012 Olympics, Old Oak Common, Ebbsfleet, Mushiereb and North West Cambridge.
Notwithstanding that important legacy, our masterplanning team is focused on future success and growth, with the intention of building upon its existing strong market presence and recognition.
This is a fundamental role for our business with excellent prospects for career growth and potential to develop the role. We are seeking an architect who has practiced as a masterplanner on large scale urban regeneration and development projects. The successful candidate will be tasked with developing fully integrated masterplanning solutions to pave the way for city development. This is a great opportunity to lead on high profile projects across the UK’s major cities.
Enhance and articulate the ambitions, aspirations and values of AECOM’s CITY PROGRAMME design ethos to clients, stakeholders, the public and the team;
Develop key relationships with existing and prospective clients;
Develop key relationships with internal partners within AECOM;
Respond to project briefs and lead client interviews and competitions;
Promote technical excellence in city masterplanning throughout the lifecycle of projects;
Take on overall responsibility for projects as ‘lead professional’ including design, resourcing, programming, design management and communication with clients;
Identify, attract, manage, nurture and retain outstanding design talent through promotion of teamwork, maintaining positive morale and instilling a creative culture within the practice; and
Conduct training sessions/courses on new concepts, approaches and/or materials to enhance the capabilities of masterplanning within Urban Advisory.
Recognised professional qualification in Architecture with a minimum of 15 years’ experience in masterplanning/design;
Proven ability to win work;
Evidence of ability to think strategically and incorporate sustainable, political, social and cultural agendas into successful design proposals;
Possess strong communication skills and evidence of ability to develop close, on-going relationships with clients, partners, stakeholders and teams at the highest level;
Thorough understanding of the technical, regulatory, environmental and political issues pertaining to the design and delivery of successful masterplanning-scale projects;
Clear commitment to collaborative working and the nurturing of design talent;
Excellent leadership and management skills and a proven ability to manage successful design teams; and
Orientation towards a commercial, creative, client-focused environment.
