AECOM’s Sustainability team comprises of specialists within our Building and Places Business Line. We are recognised as industry leaders in the field of sustainable development. Our projects range from working with Governments to support Building Regulations and National planning policy relating to climate change, to developing energy and sustainability strategies to support the design and planning of new development and the resilience of cities.
We work across all construction stages, from pre-feasibility, through feasibility, design, construction and operation; and across a wide range of sectors - housing, healthcare, schools, universities, offices, retail, hospitality etc. We also deliver advice relating to existing portfolios. Our work includes:
The development of policy on low carbon and renewable energy, climate change and sustainability issues at national, regional and local levels
Preparing industry-leading best practice guidance and policy advice for Government, GLA, RIBA and CIBSE
Sustainable masterplanning of new communities
Energy strategies including the planning and design of decentralised energy infrastructure and energy statements
Sustainability statements and appraisals
Design advice and feasibility studies for new build and refurbishment projects
Environmental assessments - BREEAM, LEED, WELL, Home Quality Mark and the RICS Ska Rating
Circular economy strategies and embodied carbon calculations
The development of Corporate Social Responsibility policies and carbon footprint reporting
Research into reducing energy use, improving resilience to climate change and creating more sustainable buildings and places.
In order to be successful in this role you will need or be
A solid foundation of understanding or analysis of client business practices and goals; develops and formulates solutions to client problems on assigned projects.
Responsible for the creation of work plans and task definitions - under general direction.
A broad technical knowledge within the sector.
A science, engineering or building-related bachelor degree
An ability to communicate effectively, be client-facing and able to write concise and clear reports
Have a good understanding of and experience of sustainable development issues as they relate to the built environment
Significant experience within a consultancy or similar environment
Experience of working with BREEAM or other assessment methods
Experience of master-planning and preparing documents for planning applications
Building sustainability/energy related MSc
Environmental assessments including BREEAM, WELL and LEED
Experience of development of sustainable strategies
