Job Summary

AECOM’s UK based Strategic Consultancy team undertakes a wide range of technical management consultancy projects. Our client range is diverse and includes national and private asset owners and operators, infrastructure construction organisations and environmental agencies. We provide expertise in:

Network Management Policy, Strategy and Safety

  • Change Management

  • Development of maintenance contracts, including associated process & procedures and performance metrics

  • Statistical analysis of collisions and development of Safety Strategy

  • Guidance, standards and specification development

Sustainability & Resilience

As a Strategic Consultant you will support the Network Management Policy, Strategy and Safety team leader and other team members in delivering well researched solutions on a variety of transportation based projects.

Our staff are multi-disciplinary with expertise in science, engineering, statistics and commercial aspects. Consequently, we have the capability, expertise and mindset to develop solutions applicable to a wide range of problems. Research is business focused, based on a comprehensive understanding of our clients' organisations, often with a strong commercial basis – we develop solutions that are deliverable. Our staff are multi-disciplinary with expertise in science, engineering, sustainability, statistics and commercial focus. We are looking to strengthen our Strategic Consultancy team with key recruits to fulfil the following responsibilities:

Job Duties :

  • Develop novel bespoke solutions on a project-by-project basis

  • Source, review, collate and report information from a variety of sources

  • Display a positive attitude to all activities and tenacity to meet deadlines

  • Display initiative whilst consulting with colleagues when appropriate

  • Demonstrate ability to exert influence over situations and resources

  • Demonstrate capability and judgement in the performance of tasks

Specific Skills :

  • Good working knowledge of the Transport sector in the UK, particularly highway network management and maintenance

We would consider the role on either a full or part-time basis and are happy to look at a range of different working patterns.

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant experience working with government transport based clients (e.g. DfT, Highways England, Network Rail, London Underground, TfL, Transport Scotland, Office of Rail Regulation, Rail Safety and Standards Board, local authorities), or in a research establishment (including well respected universities).

  • Experience of providing engineering / technical management consultancy / research advice to such clients.

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and stakeholder management skills.

  • Knowledge of the key issues and opportunities facing transportation in the UK

  • Demonstrable discipline areas of interest are: transportation policy and strategy; maintenance contracts; asset management including assessment of highways and rail renewal programmes; managed motorways expertise; lean construction; safety and simulations; transport operations; risk analysis; statistical analysis; technology; financial modelling; transport planning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree (minimum) ideally in a transport related discipline

  • Masters degree / PhD preferable

  • Ideally Chartered in relevant institution (e.g. ICE, MCIHT) or working towards this.
