AECOM is recruiting for a Senior or Principal Protection & Control Engineering Consultant to join our growing Electricity Transmission & Distribution team based in the UK and Republic of Ireland. The need arises from exciting growth in our work for traditional and non-traditional end-markets.
Location: Our UK&I T&D team is spread across London, Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol, Cardiff, Dublin and Birmingham. If you are not located near a main office, we will consider a consider a remote-working contract.
The focus of the team is large-scale grid infrastructure, grid connections, and private networks, particularly in projects where renewable energy, resilience, energy efficiency, and carbon reduction can support global efforts to combat climate change. The team delivers management, design and supervision of electrical power projects at transmission and distribution voltages ranging from 11kV to 400kV. The work includes Protection and Control design and settings these systems and renewable generation.
The role requires Protection and Control engineering knowledge and skills, with proven experience in the design and specification (including calculation of settings) of all the Protection and Control equipment used in electrical networks and renewable generation. Furthermore, with rapid advancement in the way that electrical energy is being used in society, the role requires an inquisitive and innovative mindset, combined with up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies and applications such as DNO Active Network Management, heat pumps, electric vehicle charging, demand-side management, novel network design, and HVDC/MVDC & FACTS schemes.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in working with transmission voltages up to 400kV and will probably have a consulting, utility, renewable generation or OEM background. In addition to Protection and Control engineering responsibilities, the successful candidate will have an opportunity to participate in other aspects of the engineering of T&D Projects, business development and project management skills. This will involve managing client interfaces, preparing bids and proposals, and delivering assignments using AECOM’s safety, environmental, quality and project management systems. The candidate will have an opportunity to complete the training and development required to become an AECOM-certified project manager, with possible career development towards large, multi-disciplinary, infrastructure projects.
You will ideally have:
Good team player and have a client focused mindset
Transmission utility P&C experience in UK and Europe (e.g. National Grid, ESB etc.)
National Grid TP141 authorization or ability/willingness to obtain it
Chartered Engineer status or be on route to obtaining Chartered status
Experience of high and extra high voltage projects including one or more of the following: feasibility studies, FEED design, detailed design, modeling, site supervision, testing and acceptance
Being able and willing to adapt to a wide range of different work and technical requirements.
Any or all of the following specialist skills would be warmly welcomed:
Experience across a range of different sectors
National Grid experience and/or Authorizations
GB and European experience
Any experience with the following power system analysis packages: DIgSILENT, PSSe, EDSA, CDEGS, EMTP, CAPE, ASPEN etc.
Appreciation of regulation of electricity networks
- Bachelors of Degree in Engineering filed
