AECOM UK & Ireland Ground Engineering Practice is expanding and has Principal level vacancies in London Aldgate. Both full time and part time roles are available.
The Practice covers all elements of Ground Engineering serving a wide range of end markets including some key specialisms in tunnelling, housing projects, ports, and large linear infrastructure development.
AECOM’s Ground Engineering specialists provide one-stop access to services in feasibility studies, ground investigation, interpretation, detailed design, contract administration and construction supervision for geotechnical works. We work for leading UK&I and international clients and have commissions of varying scale across all sectors, including projects such as Thames Tideway, HS2, Neom (Saudi Arabia), Hinkley Point C nuclear power station deep temporary excavations and onshore tunnels, Devonport 10 Dock and Lower Thames Crossing Ground Investigation.
We require ambitious team players with the technical and commercial skills, knowledge and experience to take day to day responsibility for delivery of projects and tasks, ensuring technical quality and adherence to budget and programme. The positions will suit those who can work with a high degree of independence, prepare fee proposals for external and internal clients and lead the input to projects from desk study/feasibility through ground investigation and interpretation to final design.
Close support to our Technical Directors and Associates in project delivery, work winning and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction,
Scoping, tendering and administering ground investigations and acting as the Engineer;
Design of geotechnical works including slopes, foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, strengthened earthworks and ground improvement;
Advanced numerical modelling skills for soil-structure interaction (SSI) particularly using Finite Element/Difference analyses techniques;
Production of geotechnical reporting, specification and contract documentation;
Reporting to the design team leader, you will interface directly with other ground engineering team members, from graduate to Directors and with other internal design teams from various disciplines and contractors;
You will have strong development skills and the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance and teaching to others, particularly junior staff, if and when required;
Ability to work collaboratively and iteratively within a multi-disciplinary design team, to ensure work packages are delivered on time and within budget;
Establishing strong working relationships and ensuring regular liaison with other internal teams;
Be aware of and understand the AECOM Project Management procedures, their importance and their application to projects, including monthly progress and budget reviews of projects;
Carry out regular design reviews in accordance with the company Quality Management System:
On the job mentoring of junior staff, supporting them to develop and achieve chartered status.
Possess strong problem solving and inter-personal skills, working closely and collaboratively with colleagues and clients in a multi-disciplinary environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write clear and concise technical reports and documents.
A wide range of experience, knowledge and skills in geotechnical engineering and/or engineering geology.
A strong working knowledge of UK ground conditions and ground investigation practice.
Clean driving licence.
You will preferably have good knowledge of Network Rail and Highways England design and reporting processes.
Candidates should be willing to travel within the UK.
BSc/BEng/MEng Degree in Civil Engineering and/or MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology.
Chartered with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
