The AECOM UK&I Ground Engineering Practice is further expanding and has a number of vacancies at Principal, Senior and Junior levels.
AECOM has a freedom of work policy with over twenty multi-disciplinary offices throughout the UK in which our staff work closely with other specialists in Land Remediation, Environment, Energy, Road, Rail, Tunnelling, Building Structures and Ports and Marine.
AECOM’s UK&I Ground Engineering Practice provides one-stop access to services in project management, feasibility studies, site investigation, interpretation, detailed design, contract administration and construction supervision for geotechnical works. We work for leading UK&I and international clients and have commissions of varying scale across all sectors, including major infrastructure projects such as Thames Tideway, HS2, Neom (Saudi Arabia), Hinkley Point C nuclear power station deep temporary excavations and onshore tunnels, Lower Thames Crossing Ground Investigations and A303 Stonehenge tunnelling.
We require ambitious team players with the technical and commercial skills, knowledge and experience to take day to day responsibility for delivery of projects and tasks, ensuring technical quality and adherence to budget and programme. The positions will suit those who can work with a high degree of independence, prepare fee proposals for external and internal clients and lead the input to projects from desk study/feasibility through site investigation, data interpretation and technical review.
We are looking for an engineering geophysicist. To be successful candidates must have a proven track record in the delivery of geophysical related projects in the UK and internationally. The candidate should be able to hit the ground running and be confident in the use and interpretation of data from of a variety of near surface geophysical techniques.
The successful candidate must have a proven ability to process and incorporate geophysical survey data with the wider site investigation data, to develop composite ground models, relating the geophysical survey reports to the specific project geology and geotechnical requirements, thus providing cost benefits to the ground investigation works, client satisfaction and potential industry competitive advantage.
Job Duties include:
Close support to our Technical Directors and Associates in project delivery, work winning and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction
Business development – help win projects by differentiating our capability and experience from our competitors
Prepare fee bids and proposals for internal and external clients
Preparing, checking and reviewing a wide range of technical reports including Desk Studies, of third party geophysical factual / Interpretative reports (including raw geophysical data)
Site attendance providing client representation over geophysical fieldwork activities
On the job mentoring of junior staff, supporting them to achieve chartered status
Ensure rigorous adhesion to AECOMs industry leading quality assurance programme
Active input to team and client meetings, being prepared to own decisions and put forward alternative ideas and concepts
Possess strong problem solving and inter-personal skills, working closely and collaboratively with colleagues and clients in a multi-disciplinary environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write clear and concise technical reports and documents
You will preferably have good knowledge of Network Rail and Highways England design and reporting processes
A wide range of experience, knowledge and skills in geophysical / engineering geology and/or geotechnical engineering
Experience in and willingness to supervise offshore geophysical and land geophysical surveys
Candidates must be willing to travel regularly within the UK and occasionally overseas for several weeks at a time
Experience in the planning, coordinating, scheduling and client representation of field surveys, - specifically:
Multi-beam echo sounding, Magnetometry, Side Scan Sonar, Sub-bottom profiler, Ultra-high-resolution seismic reflection, Marine MASW
Seismic MASW, Refraction, Reflection, Electrical Resistivity Tomography, Induced Polarisation, Magnetics, Microgravity, GPR
Experience in assessment of geophysical and geotechnical reports and methodologies for land and marine geophysical programs
Experience in industry compliant software’s such as Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Sharepoint, Linkconnex, etc.
Experience in geophysical software processing using Parkseis/Res2Dinv/Rayfract /Geosoft / Reflex / WellCAD or similar software is desirable
Experience in numerical modelling using IXBlue/Surfer/Oasis Montaj or similar software is desirable
Prepare technical reports in a variety of formats; perform QA as required by the project
Experience of business and project management procedures and aspirations for continuing professional development
Commercial awareness and experience / ability to manage time and work to budgets
Depending upon experience, assist in business development and maintain customer relationships
BSc/MSci in Geophysics
BSc/MSc in Geology
Chartered Geologist or equivalent
