Job Description

The AECOM Aldgate Infrastructure team is looking for an enthusiastic Principal Civil Engineer to expand its current team profile and capability.

This role will suit an excellent communicator and team player and will provide the opportunity for the individual to work closely with private and public sector clients covering a range of market sectors, both locally and further afield. This position offers the successful applicant exciting opportunities to advance their career, opportunities to learn working alongside senior management in a supporting role whilst assisting Graduate Engineers who are developing their skills and attributes as they work towards a professional qualification.

The role is key to the delivery of multidisciplinary infrastructure engineering schemes of all scales and sizes, from highway junction design to infrastructure delivery for entire cities. You will work on projects at all stages of the design and delivery process, from strategic and conception design through to detailed design and construction implementation. You will drive forward various civil infrastructure related commercial and residential development projects and to help develop the Company’s business.

You will work on a variety of exciting projects and enjoy working in a vibrant team, modern environment and in a high-quality location.

Key skills & experience:

  • An ability to communicate effectively, writing clear and concise emails, letters and reports

  • A good commercial awareness and experience of managing day to day project finances and instructions

  • To be commercially aware and able to lead a team of engineers and technicians, to programme workloads and successfully deliver projects to time, budget and quality.

  • Checking, auditing and approving the work of others

  • Bidding, work winning and marketing. Production of fee proposals and resource forecasting

  • Team development and mentoring



  • Experience of dealing with clients and other members of the professional team

  • Successful track record of building client relationships and identifying, pursuing and winning work.

  • Experienced in supervising and developing staff.

  • Expertise in infrastructure, highways, utilities and drainage design to deliver multi-disciplinary projects from concept, feasibility and planning through to detailed design and construction

  • Experience dealing with adoption agreements for roads and drainage

  • Experience in the use of relevant industry-standard design software packages

  • Experience of relevant highways and drainage design codes and standards


  • Civil Engineering Degree and/or an appropriate mix of qualifications and practical experience.

  • Incorporated or Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, member of the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management or Member of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation
