AECOM Global Rail Systems Practice Lead in London, United Kingdom

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Global Rail Systems Lead for immediate employment flexible on location. This position can be based in any AECOM office worldwide. The Global Rail Systems Lead works across all AECOM Regions to drive world class delivery excellence, co-ordinate the Global Rail Systems Capability Centre, and grow AECOM’s revenues in rail systems.

The Transit market sector is one of AECOM’s largest with around $900M in revenue, delivered by our biggest teams, supporting key clients, and working on projects with the most significant public impact and benefits. AECOM’s vision is to grow our rail systems capabilities to be world class, recognized by our clients and competitors. The role is a high profile visible technical leadership position. Major categories of job responsibilities include:

Leadership

  • Articulate vision for Rail Systems within AECOM, with key clients and across the transit community. Direct our approach to achieving the vision

  • Provide international industry leadership; be thought leader

  • Share best practice both internally and with outside parties.

Strategic Direction

  • Through insight from clients and the broader industry, identify future trends, risks and opportunities that shape AECOM’s future capabilities in rail systems

  • Work with key stakeholders within AECOM and with our clients to respond to the changing needs in transit. Contribute to the development of new capabilities and investment, in line with the vision.

  • Collaborate globally to share world class experience across AECOM and with key partner organisations.

  • Support our existing strategic initiative in Rail Systems and identify new initiatives that contribute to AECOM’s growth

General

  • Support the development and growth of technical teams, by ensuring suitable skills and competencies are identified, planned and developed

  • Establish dashboarding and report on a monthly basis to inform the executive leadership on technical risks and safety, and advise on and implement improvements.

  • Co-ordinate key pursuit planning, and bid and project delivery resource planning

  • Direct a small team of senior staff, and the Rail Systems Global Capability Centre team, plus collaborate with peers in geographies, with the aim of achieving overall growth for AECOM in transit and rail systems. Achieve growth through successful key pursuits and recruitment.

  • Identify key senior technical leads for priority opportunities/projects, in consultation with Global Transit team and GCC Steering Committee.

  • Engage with clients, in collaboration with Regional colleagues

  • Take technical leadership positions on key projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • Professional qualifications related to rail systems or in adjacent fields

  • Experience in relevant senior technical leadership roles on major programmes

  • Proven record in the delivery of significant rail systems infrastructure

  • Knowledge of relevant standards

  • Involvement in relevant industry bodies eg INCOSE

  • Experience of collaborative relations with clients, contractors and partners

  • High integrity professional standards

  • Strong inter personal skills including teambuilding, influencing, communication at all levels – able to translate complex rail systems concepts and bring them to life for wider audiences.
