AECOM Design Automation Engineer in London, United Kingdom

Job Summary

AECOM’s Design Automation Engineer will work closely with the Digital team to develop and implement design automation solutions (including parametric modelling) in the Transport and Water sectors. You will work with Europe’s Digital leadership, including the AI/ML Director, Sector Parametric modelers and Digital Design & Operation lead in developing standardised workflows. You will also be required to work closely with the working group aimed at ensuring consistency, identification & development of automated modelling workflows. As part of this role you will be expected to identify key business design challenges and problem solve to provide solutions in close partnership with AECOM specialists. You will work closely with the Design Automation Manager to drive adoption of design automation solutions within the AECOM Civil Infrastructure Europe business to drive real change.

About Digital @AECOM

As a solutions Engineer you will work with automation specialists from around the world to innovate and define new ways of working. You will share best practices, leverage global capabilities and to support opportunities and projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and run parametric scripts to assemble 3D BIM model components for Buildings, Bridges, Tunnels, Roads and Rail.

  • Work with a Europe working group to prepare script libraries for technical production team use.

  • Provide advice to the design teams on complex geometry and create advanced parametric families using geometric parameter formulas and adaptive component templates.

  • Production of 3D BIM project models aligned to project specified BIM requirement.

  • Engage on computational design initiatives and design automation for civil engineering disciplines with Sectors.

  • Help support and enable design teams to integrate civil design driven data and develop automation procedures for the production of 3D BIM models.

  • Audit and curate library for parametric families, customisable and adaptive.

  • Advise and provide support for interoperability procedures between CAD/BIM & Analysis software packages.

  • Provide solutions to business/client challenges developed from a foundation of understanding or analysis of business practices and goals.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in digital project and solution delivery

  • Strong knowledge of parametric modelling applications (Dynamo, Generative Components)

  • Knowledge of Python, VBA or C#

  • 3D design software experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Information Management or related field

  • MBA, MSc or other business degree (desirable)

Attributes

  • Knowledge and experience of solution development, implementation and refinement to meet user needs.

  • Demonstrable experience in consultancy, IT/ Digital or Engineering, ideally within the infrastructure industry

  • Relevant experience in at least one of transportation or water sectors desirable

  • Knowledge of and practical insight into the latest digital processes and tools across infrastructure design, delivery and operations

  • A strong customer-centric perspective that focuses on outcomes and whole-life value

  • Demonstrable passion for digital and delivering social, environmental and economic outcomes
