Job Description

Due to expanding workload and exciting project wins, AECOM are recruiting for all the above roles in the UK. AECOM are offering a great opportunity to join our rapidly growing architecture team in our multi-disciplinary London office.

You’ll be working closely with the multi-disciplinary design teams, clients, and contractors. Excellent communication skills and a friendly outlook are essential.

About Our Team:

AECOM’s design team in London is a dynamic multi-disciplinary collaborative team working on Transportation, sports, healthcare, workplace, interiors, masterplanning, landscape and export work for major international clients. We work closely with our engineers and specialists in-house. Export work for Middle East clients is a major part of the London office revenue and provides large scale complex schemes which will be of interest for architects who thrive in a challenging and dynamic environment.

Project / Design Responsibilities

  • Contribute, from the onset of a project to the design of innovative aviation and transport design solutions that reconcile client’s goals and priorities while fostering opportunities for design excellence.

  • Manage multi-disciplinary teams to deliver significant elements of a large projects, ensuring design leadership, coordination and timely delivery of outputs.

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with clients.

  • To perform and/or direct material and building system research and participate in the co-ordination and preparation of project specifications.

  • Ensuring CDM Safety in Design and Sustainability principles are applied throughout all design stages of a project.

Managerial Responsibilities

  1. Organises own and others work to achieve set deadlines.

  2. Ensures, directly and through subordinates, that projects are completed on time and meet all requirements of the Design Brief and Client requirement documents.

  3. Responsible for the correctness, accuracy and complete multi-disciplinary coordination of the design documentation prepared by their assigned team.

  4. Ensures the quality of technical work produced by team meets AECOM’s Technical Excellence standards.

  5. Applies advanced knowledge and experience to manage the day-to-day work effort.

  6. Routinely interacts with multi-stakeholder clients, contractors, local authority representatives, locally and in foreign countries. The candidate will use their expertise and negotiation skills to resolve critical issues.

  7. Responsible for key design input at early design phases and for general design leadership during the project.

  8. Promotes teamwork within a multi-disciplinary team, maintaining positive moral and instilling a creative culture within the practice.

  9. Make appropriate value judgements with respect to corrective work that supports the design concept and performance goals of the project.

  10. Manage interface between Design Team / Site Team ensuring proper design support is provided in a timely manner.

  11. Support Directors with operational responsibilities which includes development and implementing Technical Excellence initiatives, management of resources (HR), training initiatives (CPD).

  12. Resource forecasting and management.

  13. Manage and produce a range of business reporting activities.

  14. Support and develop their own team through guidance, coaching, mentoring and leadership.

  15. Ensures the latest software and digital techniques are utilised to increase productivity and training opportunities for staff are made available

Commercial responsibilities

  • Understands and implements project management principles and able to work within project budgets which includes fees and designing to budget.

  • Contribute to AECOM’s leadership by representing the company at conferences and events with the aim of promoting the company’s work and philosophy both locally and internationally.

  • Assist in initial assessment of potential new projects and competitions.

  • Contribute to preparation of bids.

  • Build a network of professional relationships with existing and prospective clients.

  • Actively participate in marketing and business development.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree or professional qualification in Architecture.

  • A clear work history and portfolio of professional development and learning in the aviation Sector, or high-profile transport schemes (5+ years post chartership)

  • Experience in delivering aviation projects in the Middle East region is preferred.

  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary aviation team environment and/or consultancy.

  • Sustainability within the aviation sector and suitable sustainability accreditation (LEED, etc) will be of benefit but not essential.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Fully Qualified and Registered Architect (ARB Registered)

  • Proven experience in working on major aviation or major transport schemes

  • Ideally you will live locally to the London office or be willing to relocate/commute.

  • Must have the right to work in the UK, visa sponsorship not on offer for this position
