Job Description
What your new role will entail;
AECOM’s growing portfolio of work includes work for contractors both in the regulated water sector and the industrial sector. We are looking for candidates who have experience in managing and providing technical leadership on design work in the design and build environment including infrastructure and non-infrastructure schemes. Some of your responsibilities will include;
Technical Leadership: Be a technical authority providing technical direction on frameworks and major projects and be a go to person for technical reviews. Lead technical solutions to deliver best possible solutions for clients including contractors through active engagement and collaboration with AECOM global experts within Environment, Water and Energy (EWE) and other business groups.
People Development & Mentoring: Provide mentoring to more junior staff supporting their technical development in project delivery and in appreciation of risks including how to manage and eliminate these on projects. Support junior staff development in ensuring they can offer value solutions to clients. Support building and development of project delivery teams and act as an ICE SCE for trainees if applicable.
Design Management / Governance: Act as lead verifier (in accordance with AECOM’s quality assurance process) on major design projects and programmes providing technical direction on solutions ensuring these meet clients brief and expectations with risks adequately managed. Be able to lead design of large and complex projects including design and build projects with significant commercial risks.
Commercial & Technical Support: Support and work closely with project managers, project directors and the commercial teams in ensuring successful delivery of projects and frameworks. Be able to demonstrate commercial awareness with regards to project delivery with an understanding of technical risks and how to manage these to offer value to clients and AECOM.
Bid Support: Support technical development of bids including development of technical bid strategies working closely with the bid team and producing engineering estimates and technical proposals. Be able to lead and review engineering estimates produced by others supporting this during bids and project delivery. Where required, be able to support and participate in technical inputs into bid interviews.
Being part of the team;
The AECOM team consists of a multi-disciplinary project delivery team with experience in delivering large water and wastewater programmes and projects through an end to end project life cycle from asset planning to project definition, feasibility to detailed design and construction and commissioning support.
Our project portfolio includes a number of major Capital Delivery frameworks and projects with water company clients including Thames Water, Wessex Water, Severn Trent Water, Scottish Water, South West Water to name a few.
AECOM works with a number of contractors both in water and wastewater projects as a designer for design and build and in Joint Ventures.
All AECOM staff have the opportunity to be part of a number of global Technical Practice Groups which creates a platform for knowledge share and technical support.
Our UK&I delivery team are connected to global expertise and hence able to draw on specialist capabilities to support project delivery.
Qualifications
Here's what we will need from you;
Be a degree qualified professional in with a BSc, BEng or MEng or equivalent in an engineering field (civil, mechanical, electrical etc)
Hands on and demonstrable experience in leading multi-disciplinary engineering design teams in project delivery preferably in the water industry
Be proactive in proposing new approaches or ways of working to solve problems, for example through using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments
Have strong communication, influencing, and interpersonal skills to collaborate with colleagues, clients and stakeholders
Deliver continuous professional development and take an active approach to drive development of more junior staff in the team
Be a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or be actively working towards this status
