Job Summary

Are you a talented and ambitious Senior Cost Manager looking to work on building projects that can change the world, projects that are always more complex and innovative than the last?

As a Senior Project Surveyor, you will be expected to work with an Associate or Director to successfully manage and deliver a wide range of capital investment projects. This full-time role will cover the whole project lifecycle from initial inception, through the design and procurement process and onto the site delivery and commissioning phase.

We are looking for an experienced Cost Manager to join our team in the North to support our exciting growth plans to work within the commercial, residential, healthcare, and science and education sectors. You will be joining a team of like-minded experts that have a passion for innovation and delivering cutting edge solutions.

About Us:

AECOM plays a critical role in the conceptualisation and creation of amazing spaces, delivering projects and buildings that define skylines and communities. AECOM Buildings & Places is made up of dedicated teams delivering projects in Commercial, Residential, Hospitality, Sports Venues, Work Places, Education, Government and Healthcare.

We are friendly, busy and motivated with an established track record of successfully delivering local and overseas projects. Some of our flagship work in recent years include;

The Palace of Westminster, Southbank Place, Arctic Science centres, The Bank of England, BBC Broadcasting House, The Titanic building in Belfast and the St Pancras Chambers Hotel in London to name but a few and, in the Northern region, the Shakespeare North Theatre, the Isle of Man Ferry Terminal, and 100 &101 Embankment for Ask Developments.

About Our Team:

We are a team of dedicated cost managers providing commercial advice to blue-chip clients across the north of England including commercial developers, housing associations, education institutions, and local central & local government. We aim to provide a “best in class” service that provides our clients with cost certainty on their projects and to protect their commercial objectives at all times.

Our team is growing to support our work in the public sector with the Government Property Agency (GPA), most notably we are driving the delivery of the Government Hub programme providing a network of high-quality office space throughout the UK. This is an ambitious programme of work over the next four years to support local government consolidations and the wider decentralisation of government activities from London and the South of England.

We are looking for highly skilled and motivated surveyors to support this exciting phase of our growth.

Job Responsibilities:

You will need to be from a consultancy or client organisation with the ability to:

  • Lead Cost Management commissions, taking responsibility for their successful delivery, with appropriate support from others, including Associates and Directors.

  • Provide effective support and mentoring to Cost Managers, Graduates and Apprentices.

  • Manage and ensure the delivery of Cost Management team outputs, in accordance with agreed timescales and quality standards.

  • Develop strong reciprocal relationships with clients and members of the project team.

  • Be a primary interface with AECOM clients (new and existing).

  • Provide full Cost Management duties to AECOM clients.

Our approach to all projects requires a high degree of flexibility and creativity, excellent presentational skills and an ability to communicate effectively with clients and consultants. • Professionally Qualified – ideally Chartered Quantity Surveying Status with the RICS, CIOB or other equivalent institution.

  • Passionate about delivering high-quality consulting services to our clients.

  • Understanding of JCT forms of contract.

  • Proven ability to lead projects from the front and advise clients and design teams on cost, value and risk, not just cost in isolation.

  • Excellent IT Skills and the ability to utilise digital measurement, cost planning and tender document tools shall be essential.

  • Excellent numeracy, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Willingness to challenge in a positive and engaging manner.

  • Understanding of a variety of project types/sizes/sectors within our active sectors in the UK (and preferably the North) – i.e. Commercial Offices, Residential, Mixed Use, Education, Healthcare, and Industrial would be advantageous, as would experience in providing Employer’s Agent services.

  • Ideally you will live locally to the office or be willing to relocate
