Position Title Extra Heavy Duty Driver

Purpose and Scope:
Drives straight truck with capacity of more than three tons and usually with more than six wheels to transport materials to and from specified destinations, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and area roads.
Must be able to drive and operate proficiently and safely a variety of extra heavy duty equipment.
Other equipment required to learn and operate: Off road special equipment, transit mixer trucks with (3) or more axles or (10) cubic yards or mor capacity. All water pulls/distributors from 1,500 to 10,000 gallsons, dump trucks (5) cubic yards and up, trash compactors, bulker cement and fly ash trucks, waste sewage pupm truck, anti-ice fluid distributor trucks, snow removal equipment such as; air-broom, ribbon blowers, sand distrbutors.
Must be able to self-load various manlifts on tilt bed trailers. Will be responsible for securing loads with binders, straps, or chains.
Must comply with all safety practices and environmental regulations.
Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
Position is represented by a Union Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
At least 3 years of Commercial Driving Experience; 2 Years Commercial Tractor Trailer Operational Experience; valid class A CDL drivers’ license and clean driver’s record. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds in weight. Possess Journeyman status per Union rules. Qualify for and maintain the required government security clearance necessary for this position.
Minimum Mandatory Qualifications :
Asphalt oils/emulsions distributor truck, boot truck
Transport trailers, 7 & 9 axle; combination trailers, doubles
CDL Class-A, with P endorsement for buses
OSHA-10, Constructions Industry, card
CDL Physical and medical card
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Heavy Duty Drivers include drivers of “18 wheelers”, dump trucks from 16 yards up to and including 22 yards water level, drivers of trucks with a GVWR/GCVWR of 20 tons but less than 30 tons, drivers of Euclid-type spreader trucks, drivers of dumpster trucks, drivers of transit mix trucks of less than 6 yards, drivers of water pulls of 4,000 gallons but less than 6,000 gallons, drivers of fuel trucks, 2,500 gallons or greater, and a highway Ross Carrier driver.
Lifting/carrying 5 to 50 pounds of materials/supplies/office equipment; devices are available for assistance in lifting/carrying 75 to 100 pounds of furniture/office equipment.
Frequent pushing/pulling using both hands/arms exerting a force up to 30 to 70 pounds, occasionally 75 to 100 pounds, while moving/sliding heavy safes/desks and other furniture items; also pulling hand trucks upstairs.
Frequent use of speech abilities and constant use of hearing abilities in communicating with coworkers/supervisors and in maintaining a safe work environment.

Constant attention to detail in high traffic areas or working in tight, close spaces;
Must be able to read/write/speak English;
Must possess basic mathematical skills;
Must possess good spatial aptitude and depth perception required in loading/off-loading trucks with furniture and storing items in warehouse;
Must be flexible and able to work long shifts on occasion and to meet peak times in receiving at warehouse.
Must have computer skills to include MS Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.
Must be able to work in a remote location with limited medical personnel and facilities.
Active TS preferred.
