AECOM Junior Specification Writer in Kitchener, Ontario

The Architectural design practice at AECOM is seeking a Junior Specification Writer to join a growing team. The individual must be highly organized, eager to learn, a good communicator, detail oriented and able to work as a team and independently. The applicant will need to demonstrate good working skills, both in office and working from home. The successful applicant will be working with multidisciplinary teams in offices across Canada, in this position located in the AECOM Kitchener office. We are open to a junior or new graduate -level candidate for this position.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
The applicant will report to and assists Senior Specification Writer with writing, editing, revising, and compiling specifications based on project size and needs
The applicant will participate in continuous improvement initiatives and assisting in maintaining AECOM master specifications;
The applicant will need to demonstrate the ability to review construction drawings and coordinate with specification.
The applicant will need to maintaining proficiency in construction products, techniques, and sequences by staying abreast of product developments, new materials, code changes, and current industry trends.
The applicant will need to Research innovative products and design technologies and discussing suitable materials and alternates with project teams.
The applicant must be a team player and be able to assist staff in the preparation of contract documents.
The applicant must be able to assist other disciplines, and work with administrative staff to format and assemble project manuals.
Must have at least a Bachelors degree and minimum 2 years of experience in the building design/construction industry. Combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered.
The applicant must have knowledge of Building Science, and sustainable design requirements including LEED.Successful candidate must be willing to do occasional travel (perhaps every few weeks/monthly) to Markham and Whitby offices post-COVID. Company will cover expenses associated with this.
Member of Construction Specification Canada (CSC), and completed the PCD (Principals of Construction Documentation), Specifier, and contract administration courses a very strong asset, but not required.
LEED Accreditation a strong asset.
Good working knowledge of building science, and sustainable design
Knowledge of specification formats – Masterformat.
Excellent computer skills in MS office software, pdf software, and Design Software (Revit).
