AECOM is seeking a Human Performance (HU) Coordinator to be based in our Kincardine, ON location. An ideal candidate must be local or willing to relocate to the area.

The Shoreline Power Group is a Joint Venture of Aecon, AECOM and SNC-Lavalin. Shoreline Power Group will be completing the Fuel Channel and Feeder Replacement (FCFR) project. The joint venture has been awarded a contract by Bruce Power to execute the Unit 6 FCFR at the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station in Kincardine, Ontario.

This project is part of Bruce Power’s Life Extension Program, which will allow Bruce Power’s CANDU units to continue to operate safely through to 2064, the project is the centerpiece of the Major Component Replacement (MCR) program to replace the main components of the reactor. Unit 6 is the first of six reactors being replaced by Bruce Power through the MCR program.

The scope of work includes the removal and replacement of calandria tubes, pressure tubes, and feeders for Unit 6, as well as construction management and trade labour. Work is scheduled to commence in June 2020, with expected completion in the third quarter of 2022.


Reporting to the Human Performance (HU) Manager, the Human Performance Coordinator will be responsible for implementing and actively monitoring and managing the Human Performance program together with the Project Director and the Human Performance Team to continuously improve human performance related to safety and quality on projects at our client site, Bruce Power.


  • Ensure implementation of the Human Performance Program throughout the project(s) and promote safety and quality through event prevention utilizing fundamental human performance tools and defence-in-depth philosophy

  • Interface with Project teams and the client to ensure alignment and continued engagement of the Human Performance Program

  • Participate and cooperate with client oversight activities in concert with the Project Directors and Managers

  • Provide oversight and assist with audits, Self-Assessments, Hu Training, event investigations, behaviour observations, Event Free Day Resets (EFDRs) and corrective action program activities

  • Together with the Human Performance Team, continue to develop and improve the Hu Program

  • Proactively provide Human Performance knowledge and expertise to the project teams through training, behaviour observations and coaching (positive reinforcement and feedback to correct undesired behaviours)

  • Coordinate and execute Hu activities, including self-assessments and training

  • Monitor, analyze and trend Human Performance data from behaviour observations, event reports, Event Free Day Resets and event investigations and identify Areas For Improvement (AFIs);

  • Lead as a role model and engage the Project teams with improvement initiatives to promote a continuous improvement culture

  • The Hu team fosters a learning culture that promotes working in partnership, innovation and collaboration. The Human Performance Coordinator must be enthusiastic about collaboration, take a consultative approach, have an openness to learn and change and work closely with their Hu peers to continuously improve the Hu Program and our ability to most effectively support operations and our clients.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in construction and or industrial environment – trades, quality, safety

  • Requires knowledge of business management, human behavior, adult learning, statistical and analytical concepts to effectively analyze existing practices and develop improvement strategies

  • Requires knowledge of project management, consulting concepts and methods to effectively develop, deliver and manage the Human Performance program

  • Ability to quickly establish a credible relationship and interact effectively with the full spectrum of staff from skilled trades to senior management

  • Requires experience in analyzing and assessing performance deficiencies and recommending, designing, and implementing mitigating solutions

  • Ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities and follow through to implementation

  • Classroom presentation/facilitation skills including classroom and practical instructional abilities

  • Relevant Post-Secondary education or equivalent experience


  • Deals with corporate counterparts and employees in person and on the phone.

  • Communicates with project directors, supervisors/managers to resolve issues/problems as they arise

  • Deals with client leadership team and client Human Performance counterparts regularly

  • Communicates daily with co-workers


  • Ability to sit and concentrate for extended periods of time

  • Will travel between project sites at Bruce Power locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Due to the nature of work conducted by AECOM, mandated nuclear export controls requirements must be met for employment

  • Our background check process includes a full security check and clearance process as well as reference checks. The security clearance process includes a comprehensive list of previous residences, employment, education and other pertinent information. Those with a valid Bruce Power security clearance are strongly preferred
