Purpose and Scope:
Perform analytic or scientific studies and evaluation of experimental results; applies scientific principles to research and technology development; generally functions in one or more of the following activities: conception, development, research, planning, and technical assessment of several separate projects. Primarily supporting food production and other space biology experiments.
Conduct analytic studies and/or scientific studies in particular scientific field.
Perform conceptual, developmental, and planning functions for major programs.
Write investigative reports and memoranda.
Establish and maintain a filing system, databases and logs as needed for tracking program status and inventory.
Coordinate and work closely with other scientific, engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines in conducting analytic and/or scientific studies.
Independently identify, collect, and analyze technical information relevant to the quality and significance of a specific research and other scientific development issues.
Conduct experimental investigations and comply with scientific documentation standards, system specifications and experimental procedures.
Prepare and present briefings about research findings.
Direct customer interface for coordination, modification, technical assistance and implementation of programs.
Provide technical inputs, ideas and concepts for proposals and business development.
May provide technical management and leadership to a group of employees for a given project, contract or job with overall responsibility for cost, schedule technical and employee performance.
Performs other position related duties and responsibilities as directed.

Procedure Compliance - Each employee must read, understand and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures and policies pertaining to their job.
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or related scientific field. Eight years of job related experience. May be required to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance.
Previous experience in KSC Engineering, Science and Research laboratories. Demonstrated ability to work in teams with diverse membership including other scientists, project managers and engineers.
