The Indian Navy has appointed AECOM as the project management consultant for its prestigious Project Seabird – Phase IIA. The largest naval infrastructure project for India, it involves creation of a naval base at Karwar on the west coast of India. Upon completion, this $3 billion program and effort will provide the Indian Navy with its largest naval base on the west coast and also the largest naval base east of the Suez Canal.
During the decade-long project, AECOM will manage and oversee the planning, design, contracting, construction and acceptance of the entire works, including construction of a new Naval Air Station.
AECOM is looking for a Safety Specialist The responsibilities for this role shall include but not be limited to the following:
Inspiring participation in the AECOM safety culture
Advising the Project Director on safety leadership and safety and emergency preparedness issues
Advising the Employer on matters of safety and emergency preparedness
Educating the AECOM site engineers and inspectors in monitoring the safe working of Contractors
Educating the engineers of the Contractors and Employer on safety issues
Supervising the work of safety officers
Ensuring that Contractors have approved safety procedures including emergency plans and procedures on each contract of the project
Auditing Contractors’ compliance with their approved safety and emergency plans
Monitoring the construction supervision team’s day to day safety inspection/checks at the works sites and their issuance of NCR for unsafe acts
Recommending alterations in safety plans based on changes in equipment and site conditions
Working with project Contractors to drive the safety culture to achieve the Safety objectives of the project
Contributing to preparation/finalization/update of Safety, Health and Environmental Manual
Compiling safety statistics and comparison with benchmarks and project KPIs
Contributing to periodic project reports
Enforce ethics and compliance policy including Third Party payment, Sub-consultancy engagement process and Gift and Entertainment policy.
BE/B.Tech Engineering .
Excellent working knowledge of industry practices/safety/quality management systems.
Up to date knowledge of all issues relating to Safety, Health and Environment in the Middle East.
Minimum 10 years of experience in construction site safety and environmental management
Minimum 5 years of experience on large (>USD 50 million) construction projects
Minimum 5 years of experience in the employ of an engineering consulting firm
Minimum 5 years of experience working for an international construction contractor or consulting firm
Be able to communicate at all levels of work force (i.e. Labourers, Foreman, safety team, project engineers).
Clearly communicate in both verbal and written English.
Be confident, professional, & assertive. Must be able to handle conflict appropriately.
Be proactive - thinking outside of the box to help anticipate and solve hazardous conditions.
