Position Title Environmental Technician II

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Environmental Technician for immediate employment for a Class 1 Rail Facility's Wastewater Treatment Operations located in Newton, Kansas. Position is anticipated to be part-time with a schedule of 20-30 hours per week.
Operation of the WWTP includes the following:
Operating the WWTP such that it meets the required discharge limits during routine influent and treatment conditions outlined in the NPDES Permit.
Operating the WWTP in a safe and professional manner, including maintaining required training and certifications included e-RAILSAFE, Contractor Orientation, Roadway Worker Protection, and state requirements for private WWTP operators (including Class 1 Operators license).
Confirming proper operation and testing of the WWTP after repairs, maintenance or cleaning.
Participating in client specific programs, Monthly WWTP Operator calls, and annual WW Conference.
Perform all inspections utilizing the client specific tracking system.
Perform routine cleaning of the IAF and API OWS associated with operations of the WWTP.
Coordinating and/or assisting with WWTP repairs, maintenance, and cleaning utilizing the EAM system.
Additional responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:
Read, understand, and follow published test methods and standard operating procedures, including company and client specific programs
Produce accurate and complete documentation of operation, inspections and compliance according to standard operating procedures
Show initiative in maintaining and repairing equipment, ordering and organizing supplies and maintaining work area
Effectively work both independently and in a team environment
Effectively communicate with site representatives regarding schedules and task requirements
Participate in other environment-related projects and tasks as required, and support Wastewater Treatment Operations at other client facilities under direction of staff as necessary.
Knowledge of environmental regulations, practices and procedures; recognizes differences or changes that would indicate the need for attention. Receives and maintains required safety training including OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER Training with annual 8-hr refresher; client-specific training and regulatory specific training will be required.
High School Diploma or equivalent
2 or more years’ experience in an environmental related field and conducting inspections.
Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in outdoor and indoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, dryness, moisture, noise, and chemicals; position requires frequent operation of vehicles; often standing/walking, work alone in isolated areas and lifting of 25-50 pounds; occasionally performing repetitive bending & stooping, power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), climbing stairs, working in an environment of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment, performing keyboard/mouse operations, performing repetitive or fine hand movements, and lifting of 50 to greater than 75 pounds; rarely working with arms above shoulder level, working at heights, wearing fall protection equipment, and operating heavy, moving or dangerous equipment. Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection, and fall protection.
Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; many projects/ clients are security sensitive.
Must be able to successfully complete initial and random screening requirements including drug, breathalyzer, urine and/or hair test.
Must participate in and successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment fitness for duty questionnaire.
Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Candidate must be able to meet the medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical examination.
Aptitude for operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to record data neatly, accurately, and legibly
Associates degree or equivalent experience preferred
Knowledge of Class 1 Railroad operations or railroad experience
40-Hour Hazwoper Certificate/Training, with 8-Hour Refresher
