AECOM Aircraft Mechanic Line 1 - AM1 in Jacksonville, Florida

Job Summary

URS Corporation is immediately hiring qualified Aircraft Mechanic Line I in support of U.S. Navy Aviation maintenance operations at NAS Jacksonville, FL. Shift work and detachment is required. AECOM enforces a safety culture whereby all employees have the responsibility for continuously developing and maintaining a safe work environment. As appropriate each employee is responsible for completing all training requirements and fulfilling all self-aid/buddy aid responsibilities, participating in emergency response tasks and serving on safety committees and teams.

Purpose and Scope:

Candidate may function as shift supervisor in directing and performing line functions including aircraft launch and recovery, towing evolutions, and support equipment delivery in support of P-3 and P-8 aircraft operations. Must have 3 years o-level aircraft maintenance experience, with 1-year line operation experience. Must acquire and maintain plane captain qualifications. Prior experience with U.S. Navy operations on P3/P8 Aircraft highly preferred.

Directs incoming and outgoing aircraft near hangar area to assist pilots maneuvering of the aircraft on ground, using hand or light signals. Secures aircraft in parking position with chocks, tie down chains, and grounding wires. Performs fueling/de-fueling and engine oil servicing. Checks for fuel contamination by draining samples from low point drains. Operates ground support equipment such as electrical power supply, tow tractors, light carts, and engine starting units. Cleans exterior or interior of aircraft, using portable platform ladders, brushes, rags, water hose, and vacuums interior floors of aircraft

Perform all other positions related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. Frequently lifts items weighing 40-45 pounds and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud or unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have 3 years o-level aircraft maintenance experience.

  • Prior experience with U.S. Navy operations on P3/P8 Aircraft highly preferred. Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required to perform assigned maintenance tasks is mandatory.

  • Shift work and detachments are required.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned tasks.

  • There is a great deal of standing, climbing, bending and stooping. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Work is performed primarily outdoors under all types of weather conditions with exposure to loud noise and exhaust fumes.

  • Must be able to obtain an approved status from the Contractor Verification System which includes a 7 year back ground check and obtain a Security Clearance for Public trust.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance.

  • Prior experience with U.S. Navy operations on P3 Aircraft highly preferred.
