The Senior Cloud Architect is responsible for leading the multi-cloud strategy, creation of a technology framework and providing technical leadership in support of AECOM’s business initiatives in cloud computing and automation, with a focus on the design of systems and services that run on cloud platforms.
The position reports into the Director, Cloud Delivery and will lead the Cloud Services team to provide architectural leadership, implementing cloud and automation best practices for IaaS, PaaS & SaaS platforms. Additionally, this position will be responsible for ensuring that critical applications are designed and optimized for high availability and disaster recovery. The Sr. Cloud Services Architect is responsible for identification and selection of appropriate cloud services based on requirements and constraints, has deep subject matter expertise, and can evaluate new technologies that fit the overall AECOM cloud strategy. The position requires strong leadership and teambuilding skills and must be able to collaborate effectively with a group of high performing individuals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Developing a cloud strategy and coordinating the adoption process
Developing and coordinating cloud architecture and leading cultural change for cloud adoption
Contribute to organization’s priorities on Cloud adoption, IT simplification and modernization, Agile and Dev-Ops acceleration
Own the documentation and development of the company’s IT cloud architecture/infrastructure, and technology portfolio. Experiences deploying and operating cloud-based services on a public cloud framework, preferably in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Azure or AWS.
Act as a Subject Matter Expert to the organization for public & private (hybrid) cloud architectures
Develop a library of deployable and documented cloud design patterns, based on the application portfolio, as a basis for deploying services to the cloud
Demonstrate leadership ability to back decisions with research and the “why,” and articulate several options, the pros and cons for each, and a recommendation
Own and drive the selection process to choose the right cloud services for specific use cases with operationalization mind set
Conduct research on emerging cloud technologies in support of infrastructure development efforts and recommend technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and infrastructure flexibility
Develop, document, make recommendations, and communicate plans for investing in IT cloud infrastructure, including analysis of cost reduction opportunities
Provide architectural consulting expertise, direction, and assistance to 3rd party vendors, systems analysts, IT cloud engineers, and other cloud architects
Develop and manage an IT cloud infrastructure capacity plan
Develop and execute test plans to check IT cloud infrastructure and systems technical performance. Report on findings and make recommendations for improvement
Provide support and technical governance, expertise related to cloud architectures, deployment, and operations
Advocate and define cloud architecture vision from a strategic perspective, including internal and external platforms, tools, and systems
Work with other leaders, define the vision for technology platform and other technologies at AECOM and collaborate with each subsidiary to establish differentiated strategies and tactics to achieve our missions and goals.
Collaborate and coordinate with partners across subsidiaries, and geographies to execute all aspects of the digital strategies and tactics worldwide.
Work with the teams responsible for corporate systems and technologies across the enterprise and drive profitable growth in key performance indicators by ensuring their knowledge of how to maximize platform and other technologies.
Working with other technology leaders, continually evolve and enhance the customer experience to improve customer acquisition, engagement, conversion, and retention.
Level specific responsibilities:
Contributes to short- and/or long-range IT program plans consistent with the information needs and priorities of the functional group.
May develop and initiate programs that support functions and strategies of IT and the organization.
May perform the personnel management functions required to develop and maintain a qualified and motivated staff.
Oversees the administration and maintenance of the company’s infrastructure and directs, leads and manages as necessary.
Works with diverse business groups and customers to implement strategic objectives for the IT organization.
Reports to an IT Director.
May provide consultation and support to project groups and users in operating systems.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems analysis or a related study and 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education including 2 years of leadership experience.
Current AWS or Azure certification
Experience with development and automation tools such as AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Jenkins, Python, Docker, vRA and Kubernetes
Experience managing on-premise data center workloads, processes, and methodologies
Experience managing and migrating into IaaS, SaaS, PaaS, and DBaaS platforms
Subject-matter expertise in the areas of solution & technology research, cost analysis, risk identification, implementation strategies
Expertise in the areas of requirements gathering, diagramming & documentation, software / technology evaluation and selection
Experience collaborating with departmental leadership in order to establish, communicate and maintain technology standards.
Strong technical understanding including past development experience of N-Tier applications and service-oriented architecture including databases (OLAP, OLTP) and middle-ware (Java APIs, Java Web Services)
Be able to Adopt and drive Dev-Ops, Agile and Automation practices across the program / enterprise
Relocation is not available for this position
